Cover Reveal and a Giveaway!

Hello everyone, Winnie Griggs here! Getting a first look at a new cover is always a treat for an author (or this author anyway!)
When the email comes in from the editor with the cover art attached, you open it with the excited anticipation of unwrapping a special gift. And this latest one was no different.  It’s for my upcoming September 2024 release.
An Amish Christmas Match is the first book in my new Sweetbrier Creek series. The series centers around six brothers who are trying to make it on their own and the women who grow to love them. This first book features the oldest brother, Seth, who crafts handmade chess sets, which lends the title its double meaning.

Here’s a little about the book:

21 year old Phoebe Kropf has been living with the stigma of being unable to read or write all of her life. Add to that the fact that she gets clumsy when startled or nervous and most of her friends and family tend to treat her as someone who needs to be coddled and not trusted with complex or delicate tasks. She knows she is loved but she longs to be treated as the competent adult she feels she is.

Seth Beiler, a widower and a skilled woodworker who creates sought after chess sets, carries the weight of his younger brothers’ well-being on his shoulders. His first wife has been gone for four years now and he feels he can no longer carry on without help—it’s finally time to find a new fraa. He asks two of his cousins, both of whom live in distant communities, to be on the lookout for someone who is like his former wife—organized, practical and efficient.

When Seth’s Aunt Edna, serving as his housekeeper, injures her wrist, she invites her friend Phoebe to fill the role temporarily. Phoebe is excited to accept—it means moving to a place where no one has any preconceived notions about her and where she can be free to spread her wings a bit.

Phoebe is not what Seth was expecting—rather than being Edna’s age she’s younger than him, rather than being practical and efficient she’s spontaneous and spirited. But she’s only going to be around for five or six weeks so he figures he can deal with it.

But as Phoebe and Seth collaborate to manage the household, their connection deepens. Shared laughter, heartwarming meals, unconventional chess matches and unexpected moments bind them together.

Yet, both harbor secrets that could shatter their growing affection…

“Stone Landry stared into the green depth of her eyes and brushed a knuckle across Emma’s soft cheek. “One day.” He dragged air into his lungs. “One day I intend to court you, lady. That’s a promise. Hangman’s daughter or not.”

Courting Miss Emma, Book 2 of the Hangman’s Daughters series, will soon come your way and I want to share this gorgeous cover. The colors and fonts are really nice. I wish her skirt was a bit slimmer but maybe the wind got under it and ballooned it out. After all, we have a LOT of wind in Texas! I also love Emma’s hair and think it’s perfect. With sixteen orphans to keep track of, she wouldn’t have had a lot of time for her hair.

As with her sister Maura in Book 1, she’s never been courted, kissed, or even come close. At 26 years old, she would’ve been considered an old maid back in 1868. But when Stone Landry bought the property next door, Emma began to see herself as a woman with something left to give.

Stone gets her dander up right away after one of the orphan boys wanders over onto his property. He brings the kid back—along with a sharp rebuke for Emma to watch the children better. She sees red of course.

So, that’s how their relationship starts. They mix like oil and water. It isn’t that he doesn’t like kids, he was just never around any.

Add in a couple of adult camels and their baby and you get the idea. The kids weren’t going to stay on their side of the property line and that was that.

It’s a fun story with a group of unscrupulous bad guys trying to take both Emma’s and Stone’s land and shut down the orphanage. It leads to a land war with the couple fighting tooth and nail to stop them.

Wars have been fought over land since the beginning of time. Someone big and powerful always thinks they can take what they want and no one can stop them. It’s a familiar theme in westerns and it happens today all over the world. Sometimes the little guy wins.

This is a sweet romance with lots of action and a mix of humor thrown in. I think you’ll like this story that shows the depth of Emma’s and Stone’s hearts and their commitment to keeping Heaven’s Door open. No matter the cost.

Ever since I wrote Knight on the Texas Plains, I’ve always put children in my stories. They make the stories richer. Animals are another constant and I’ve had a variety—horses, dogs, cats, a monkey, a talking parrot, and now camels. You never know what’s coming next.

I’m giving away an ebook copy of the first book, Winning Maura’s Heart. To enter, tell me the one-word name of Maura’s love interest.

Cover Reveal!

You may recall a while back, I wrote a post about Historic Route 66. I was researching it for what I call my, ‘Grandma Road-Trip Story’. A Women’s Fiction, set in the west. Well, I finished, and it’s becoming a real book!

I just got this beautiful cover from my publisher the other day!

Here’s the blurb:

Jacqueline Oliver is an indie perfumer, trying to bury her ravaged childhood by shoveling ground under her own feet. Then she gets a call she dreads—the hippie grandmother she bitterly resents was apprehended when police busted a charlatan shaman’s sweat lodge. Others scattered, but Nellie was slowed by her walker, and the fact that she was wearing nothing but a few Mardi-Gras beads. Jacqueline is her only kin, so like it or not, she’s responsible.

Despite being late developing next year’s scent, she drops everything to travel to Arizona and pick up her free-range grandma. But the Universe conspires to set them on a Route 66 road trip together. What Jacqueline discovers out there could not only heal the scars of her childhood but open her to a brighter future.

And on my vacation fly fishing in Colorado, I did a clip of me reading the first pages:

I wish I could tell you it was available for sale, but it isn’t yet (dang it!). But know that when it is, you’ll hear me shouting it from the rooftops!

Cover Reveal, Free Gift, & Valentine Sale

Happy Valentine’s Week!!
The time for romance, gifts, and love stories.

One of my favorite experiences as an author is seeing my cover for the first time. It’s terrifying and exciting all rolled into one. Such anticipation! Well, I’m excited to reveal my next cover. Talk about romantic! The designers did such a fabulous job giving this cover an incredibly unique yet timelessly romantic feel.

The Kissing Tree is a novella collection by Karen Witemeyer, Regina Jennings, Nicole Deese and Amanda Dykes that spans roughly 150 years. Each of the four stories takes place in Oak Springs, Texas, centering around a particular sprawling live oak whose trunk and branches have been carved over the centuries with couples’ initials. It is the keeper of a thousand stories, and this book showcases four of them: one in the mid-1800’s, one in the late-1800’s, one during World War II, and one in present day. It releases this fall, and should be up for pre-order in just a few short weeks!

The tree we used as a model for our Kissing Tree is a real tree with it’s own romantic heritage on the Texas A&M university campus. The Century Tree. Isn’t it gorgeous? This tree is the site of many a romantic marriage proposal to this day.
