Well, it’s my turn in the kitchen, and my rule is “THE EASIER THE BETTER!” (As long as it’s also delicious, of course!
I think I might have found a perfect recipe for what is sure to become a “Fall Favorite” at my house. I bought all the stuff to make this and I’m going to try it next week.
I found this recipe on a site called MAMA’S COOKING, and I know my mama would have really loved this! It’s called FALL DUMP CAKE–and I don’t think anything could be any easier than this. Take a look…
FALL DUMP CAKE
Time: 2 hours 5 minutes
Yield: 12 servings
Here’s what they say about this wonderful dessert:
Ah, fall is in the air… can’t you smell it? Yes, we do mean smell and you’ll understand why here in a
minute! Load up your slow cooker with this Fall Dump Cake for the easiest, sweetest, autumn-flared
scents to circulate your surroundings for hours. Not only does it smell like all your fall fantasies, but
the way the syrupy apple filling blends so nicely with the crumbly, cinnamon-coated cake will have you
dancing around like a leaf on a windy day. Your senses will totally fall for Fall Dump Cake! ‘Tis the
season!
ALL RIGHTY THEN! If it delivers as described, this is one I’ll be making over and over again!
Ingredients
2 (20-ounce) cans apple pie filling
1 (15.25-ounce) package yellow cake mix
1/2 cup unsalted butter, cut into cubes
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
whipped topping, to taste, for topping
Directions
Step 1
In a slow cooker, add the apple pie filling.
Step 2
Evenly sprinkle the cake mix over the filling, then dot it all over with the butter cubes.
Step 3
Sprinkle the cinnamon over the apple mixture.
Step 4
Cover the slow cooker and cook on high heat until the filling is bubbly and the top is golden-brown,
about 2 hours.
Step 5
Serve the dump cake with the whipped topping.
If you do make it, I would love to hear how you and your family enjoyed it. I know my husband Gary will love it because he is an “apple” kind of guy, but I’m wondering if you could use peaches rather than apple if you preferred it? Or maybe even cherry? Lots of room for experimenting, I’m thinking!

Sounds delicious!
Denise, I think is really will be. I haven’t tried it yet, but…I’m going to!
I’ve made it with cherry in the oven, just not in the crock pot.
I love cherry anything, Denise. If I was making it just for me, that would be my pick.
Seems easy, and I’m sure it’ll be pretty tasty!
Melinda, anymore, EASY is the key word! LOL But yeah, I think it’s going to be one of those go-to recipes.
I love apples and dessert, so this sounds really good.
Janice, I do too, and my husband is an apple freak. LOL It’s going to be a good thing, I think!
Hey Cheryl! Yum! I made blueberry dump cake this weekend for a family reunion. I like the idea of using the crockpot! And I love apples too! Yum!
OHHHH, Tracy! BLUEBERRY. That sounds wonderful! Well, apples will be a good variation and the crockpot is always welcome!
pumpkin in the bottom??? would need to sweeten it! But my pumpkin dump cake is a lot like this one, but made in the oven! Pumpkin dump cake
1 (29-ounce) can pure pumpkin
1 (12-ounce) can evaporated milk
3 eggs
1cup sugar
1teaspoon salt
3teaspoons cinnamon
1box yellow cake mix
1cup chopped pecans
3/4cup melted margarine
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix first six ingredients until well blended, and pour batter into a 9-by-13-inch greased pan. Sprinkle cake mix on top, and then cover with pecans. Pour melted margarine over top. Bake 50 minutes, or more until center is set.
Teresa, I think your recipe for pumpkin dump cake sounds great! This recipe is for apple dump cake, though the picture looks a bit like pumpkin, doesn’t it? LOL Dump cake is ALL good in my book. Thanks so much for this recipe–my daughter loves pumpkin anything–might be a great change for us from pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving!
I have made something like this but I used a baking dish and fixed it in the oven. It was several years ago and yes it was really good.
I’m just itching to try this. I think it will be SOON!
Peaches work great! I have made this with peaches, apples and cherries. Thank you for sharing.
Barbara, I think peaches would be so yummy too. I love all of these fruits, but I really do love cherry. My dad was a cherry lover–I think that’s where I get it.
We make this a lot! It’s great in a Dutch open, in a 9×13 dish in a conventional oven, & in a slow cooker! I’ve made it with apples, cherries, & peaches, and with all flavors of cake mix. My favorite combination is cherries with chocolate cake! It’s similar to a black forest cake.
Oh, Ami, I never even thought of improvising with different flavors of cake mix! That pseudo black forest recipe sounds awesome–might have to give that a try!
I’ve baked it in the oven and I don’t dot the butter on, I grate it over the top. Honestly, I have to wait for my husband to go on a hunting trip because I don’t want him to see how much of it I eat. Heck, I don’t want to see how much of it I eat haha…
Rachel, a woman after my own heart! I wish my husband was still traveling like he used to for work–now he sees everything…sigh…HA!
Oh man, this looks good, Cheryl, and so easy. That’s what I like. It would be a great holiday dessert! 🙂
Linda, that’s what I’m thinking too–I’m just looking through the suggestions above from others who have made this–it’s like a whole new world! LOL And an EASY ONE! Even better!
Sounds wonderful delightful.
Kathleen, I’m definitely going to try it out, and probably more than one version. I love Rachel’s method of grating the butter over the top…I never would have thought of doing that!
I am supposed to be cutting back, but, hey, this is with fruit so how unhealthy can it be, right? Thanks for the idea of using the crock-pot. Best always,
HAHAH, SUSAN! That was my thought too! And think of all the different “healthy” fruits we can eat if we make this with all these variations!!!
Thank you for sharing your recipe with us, it sounds delicious. Have a great week.
Hi Alicia! I think it will be great–I plan to make this for Thanksgiving. I’m going over to Amazon on the hunt for gluten free cake mixes–both my kids have developed allergies to gluten as they’ve gotten older.
It sounds good! I did an apple dump cake in the oven before that was really good.
Trudy, how have I missed out on these dump cake recipes all these years? I need to “get out” more! LOL
Thanks for sharing it sounds delicious
You’re very welcome, Sarah–I think it will be great–I am definitely going to make this very soon. Might not wait for Thanksgiving!
Sounds delicious. Thank you for sharing. God bless you.
Debbie, you are very welcome. I have loved seeing all these different recipes each time we do a “Cowgirl in the Kitchen” blog and I’ve really enjoyed today–hearing all the variations on this recipe!
This sounds a lot like the way we make cobbler in a dutch oven over the campfire coals. Of course the method of cooking is a bit different. My daughter is the one who always makes it. I am sure she would be game to try it this way if she hasn’t already. She likes good, quick, and easy recipes. Thanks for sharing.
Patricia, cooking over the coals is a lot like using a crock pot in a way, I would think–with the slow cooking over time. I am so excited reading all the variations on this recipe. If it ever stops raining I might just get to the store and buy what I need to make this! LOL
I’m glad you shared this on the day I need to order groceries. I just added the ingredients to my list. Thanks, Cheryl.
GOOD! Let me know how it turns out. I’m going to make it too, but not sure when I will get to the store for the groceries!
