Top 5 Western TV Commercials

I’m sure it’s no surprise that I love the western genre. Books. Movies. Stationary. Home decor. Give me a cowboy, a horse, and a rugged landscape, and I’m instantly intrigued. Make me laugh along the way, and it’s even better.

Since I know you love cowboys, too, and since we could all use some extra smiles in our day, I thought I’d have some fun by counting down my TOP 5 WESTERN TV COMMERCIALS.

#5Jesse?

Over the years, GEICO has done several fun commercials with old west themes. Three of them made my list. But they all started with this split-time gem from 2014.

This commercial proves what all of us at Petticoats & Pistols already know – westerns are better for everyone if they have a happy ending. If Jesse had just stayed with Daisy, tragedy would have been averted. Romance saves lives, people!

#4 – Showdown Narration

This one has great tongue-in-cheek humor as it pokes fun at the classic oater movies of the 60’s and 70’s.

Anyone manage to count how many deer heads were mounted on the walls in that saloon?

#3 – Dancing Mustache

No actor (except for maybe John Wayne) better epitomizes the old west than Sam Elliott. Every time I hear his voice, my vision takes on a sepia tone, and I start looking around for tumbleweeds. This commercial for Doritos was better than the Super Bowl in 2020.

#2 – Hunky Delivery

This one is for all of you contemporary western romance lovers. It doesn’t utilize humor, but it made my top 2 simply because I dream about having a cowboy deliver my groceries on horseback out on a ranch. I’d buy all my meat from HEB forever if this happened in the real world. Too bad it’s just another romantic fantasy.

#1 – Overscheduled Cowboys

This is my new favorite. It’s another one by GEICO, and it cracks me up. Nothing like taking a modern day issue and forcing it onto a bygone era for comedic effect. Genius! Don’t miss you spur fittin’, lasso lesson, or bean eatin’ with the new leather cowboy planners available at Slaton’s Mercantile. Never be late for being thrown through a saloon window again. Stop by at high noon or high 2 o’clock to get your cowboy planner before these little doggies are gone.

Did you catch the name of the little lady getting lasso lessons? Yep – Daisy. I gotta wonder if that’s an homage to the Daisy from the first ad. She’s getting lasso lessons so she can rope a man who won’t ride off into the sunset without her. Ha!

Which of these is your favorite?

  1. LOL you forgot the cowboys bringing in the CAT herd from a few years ago and then the Clydes in any super bowl commercials – they will be there on Sunday again!

  2. As much as I love Sam Elliot, but the Words Can Hurt commercial is my favorite of these. It still makes me laugh.

  3. I think The Dancing Mustache is #1 for me. I love the end when Sam Elliott’s horse shakes his head. He will not humiliate himself by dancing ?
