NEW RELEASE AND GIVEAWAY! by Cheryl Pierson

Cheryln100000149781632_8303

ST. PADDY’S DAY IS HERE, AND I’M GIVING AWAY A DIGITAL COPY OF THE HALF-BREED’S WOMAN TODAY TO ONE LUCKY COMMENTER! JUST LEAVE A COMMENT WITH YOUR CONTACT INFO IN IT TO BE ENTERED IN THE DRAWING!

Do you consider yourself lucky on St. Patrick’s Day? Are you superstitious at all? I remember in those long-ago schooldays wearing green to keep from getting pinched. You know, I still wear green on March 17…guess I’m pretty superstitious…what about you? Today may be your lucky day–I’m going to draw a name from the big ol’ Stetson this evening for a winner of a digital copy of my new full length novel, THE HALF-BREED’S WOMAN. It might be YOU! May the luck of the Irish be with you! Here’s what it’s all about:

                                                               THE HALF-BREED’S WOMAN
U.S. Deputy Marshal Jaxson McCall tracks runaway debutante Callie Buchanan from Washington, D.C., into the unforgiving badlands of Indian Territory.  But once the sparks fly between them, can he bring himself to take the beautiful young woman in to face an attempted murder charge?
Callie’s greedy stepfather, a powerful government official, has his own plans for her—a  fate much worse than jail. Jaxson must protect her at all costs—even if it means his own death—or losing his heart to “The Half-Breed’s Woman”.
PRP The Half-Breed's Woman Web Rev
Jax has fought to protect Callie from being kidnapped in the restaurant downstairs. She’s not sure he knows who she is, and he’s keeping up the ruse by calling her by her assumed name, Sarah. They’ve gone back to the safety of his room, and here’s what follows.
Excerpt:

Callie gave him a slow, measuring smile. “Come on, Marshal. Sit down, and let me pull your boots off.”

“I can do it.”

“Huh-uh. That’d be just plain stupid with your ribs hurt like they are, now wouldn’t it, Mr. McCall? Allow me, your kept woman, to do that for you.”

“Sarah—” he began, but Callie gently pushed him down to the side of the bed and carefully pulled his boots off, setting them beside the night table.

He stood up, and Callie returned, brushing his hands aside as she took over the task of unbuttoning his shirt.

“Sarah, I can do this.” His voice became edgy.

Callie smiled up at him innocently. “Oh, I’m sure you are able, Marshal, but isn’t this what a whore does for her man?”

With a predatory growl, he yanked her to him, putting his mouth to hers as it fell open in surprise. In an instant, he was crushing her body against his, molding the curves of her sweet, warm skin against the hardness of his own body. His mouth slanted hotly across hers, his tongue plundering her, tasting the honey of her kiss.

His fingers splayed across her back and speared into her damp hair, as it cascaded around her, falling to her waist. She made a soft noise in her throat, then gasped at the fierce joining, as her breath left her. Her hands came up across his back, under his arms, careful of the wounded right side.

Callie tentatively touched her tongue to his, her fingers threading through his hair.

God,” he muttered hoarsely against her lips, pulling her closer, molding her body to his own hard, straining arousal. She yielded under the onslaught of his mouth upon hers, and he felt her desire, poorly concealed, under his fingertips as he touched her.

This, Sarah,” he whispered roughly, lifting his mouth from hers for the briefest of moments. “This is what a whore does for her man.” Or what a woman does, for the man she loves.

JASON’S ANGEL GIVEAWAY by Cheryl Pierson

Cheryl7126Today, I’m blogging about my most recent release, JASON’S ANGEL. In case this title sounds familiar to you, it was previously released in an anthology with Victory Tales Press, and also as single-sell short story with Western Trail Blazer. It’s making its “re-release appearance” with PRAIRIE ROSE PUBLICATIONS now, with an awesome new cover.

I’m excited about JASON’S ANGEL being released as a “stand alone” story, selling at only .99 ! I’m giving away two copies of JASON’S ANGEL today! Please leave a comment along with your contact info and you will be entered—it’s that simple.

Jason’s Angel takes on several issues with the society of that time. The story takes place just as the War Between the States is winding down. Jason wears Union blue, but speaks with a Georgia accent. To make things even more difficult, he’s half Cherokee, half Scottish! When he’s wounded and winds up at a Confederate hospital, there’s only one thing kind-hearted Sabrina Patrick can do…

Jason's Angel Web

Jason ‘s Angel by Cheryl Pierson

Two wounded Union soldiers will die without proper treatment. Sabrina Patrick realizes they won’t get it at the Confederate army hospital where she helps nurse wounded men. She does the unthinkable and takes them to her home.

Jason McCain’s pain is eased by the feel of clean sheets, a soft bed, and a touch that surely must belong to an angel. But what reason could an angel have for bringing him and his brother here?

EXCERPT FROM JASON’S ANGEL:

It was only a brief touch of their lips, Sabrina told herself, and should not have caused the waves of trembling heat to rush over her.  His lips were firm and strong.  And she kissed him back.

He’d reached up and gently pulled her to him.  As if he’d sensed her concern over Desi being in the room, he’d glanced to where she sat talking to Eli, once more engrossed in conversation, and when Sabrina had started to protest, he’d squeezed her shoulder in silent reassurance.  And she had kissed him back.

He’d been so gentle and—oh Lord, had Eli seen that kiss?  She had responded heartily to his brother.  She had not pushed Jason away or protested in the least.  She had welcomed it.  There was no doubt for either of them.  She had definitely kissed him back.

As she pulled away, she opened her lids to find him watching her.  His dark eyes smoldered with desire.  But it didn’t scare her.  It excited her.

Good Lord.  She stood quickly, her head spinning so that she almost missed her first step toward the door.  When had she last eaten?  That had to be the cause of her unsteadiness.  But why was her heart pounding so frantically?  It was only a kiss.  One kiss.

But she had kissed him back.

HEARTS AND SPURS…AND A GIVEAWAY! by CHERYL PIERSON

Cheryln100000149781632_8303
Hi everyone,
I’m talking about my story, FOUND HEARTS, in the brand new Valentine’s Day anthology, HEARTS AND SPURS that was just released  a week ago through PRAIRIE ROSE PUBLICATIONS!
How do you capture a cowboy’s heart? Hearts and Spurs is a collection of nine stories by some of western romance’s best—just in time for Valentine’s Day! Following up their Christmas collection Wishing for a Cowboy, these ladies have done it again with new stories of handsome cowboys and the women who captivate them in Hearts and Spurs.
The authors in this edition of cowboy love stories are: Linda Broday, Phyliss Miranda, Tanya Hanson, Tracy Garrett, Kathleen Rice Adams, Jacquie Rogers, Livia Washburn Reasoner, Sarah J. McNeal, and yours truly.  The variety of styles and stories in this sweet/sensual collection is just wonderful, and will keep you turning the pages!
HEARTS AND SPURS AUTHORS
My story, FOUND HEARTS, is about a young woman in the post-Civil War South, who is forced to leave first her home in South Carolina, then the safety net of her aunt and uncle’s home in Chicago. Her brother’s excessive drinking and expenditures have put her into a situation she never dreamed she’d find herself in–penniless, and at the mercy of others. The answer to her dilemma comes in the form of an advertisement in the paper from a man searching for a wife for himself, and a mother to his children.

I’ve always wondered about women who were mail-order brides. How hard it must have been to leave everything behind and go to a new place where everything was unfamiliar, not knowing anyone, and marrying a man who could be any kind of person–you wouldn’t know until you got there. What circumstances could force a person into doing something so desperate? Any number of things! That’s what makes a mail-order bride story so tantalizing.
 Hearts and Spurs Med
Here’s the blurb:
Southern belle Evie Fremont has lost everything—except hope. When she answers an advertisement for marriage to Alex Cameron who lives in the wilds of Indian Territory, she has few illusions that he could be a man she might fall in love with—especially as his secrets begin to unfold.

Ex-Confederate soldier Alex Cameron needs a mother for his two young half-Cherokee sons more than he needs a wife—or so he tells himself. But when his past threatens his future on his wedding day, he and Evie are both forced to acknowledge their new love has come to stay—along with their FOUND HEARTS.
And here’s a VERY quick excerpt:
Her voice trembled at the end, and Alex reached for her, but she tried to push him away.
“Evie—” He grasped her shoulders and turned her toward him.
“I should slap your face!”
He gave a slight smile. “Just wait.”
“For what?”
“This.” He leaned toward her and pulled her tightly into his arms, his lips coming across hers with tender impatience. Evie stopped struggling as his mouth closed over hers in a gentle, yet firm melding that he kept tightly leashed.

NEW READING FOR CHRISTMAS! by CHERYL PIERSON

Cheryln100000149781632_8303In August, my good friend Livia W. Reasoner and I decided to open our own publishing house called  PRAIRIE ROSE PUBLICATIONS. We limited our submissions to women only, since it’s traditionally been so very hard for women to break into the western writing genre. We also included historical stories as well as western historical romance among our genres.RR Article Prairie_Rose_Pub_Logo_1_SM

It wasn’t long until we knew we were going to have to add a contemporary imprint, FIRE STAR PRESS.

As much as we’ve talked about getting younger people involved in reading historical stories, we decided to also include an imprint for Middle Grade Readers (9-12), Young Adults (13-17) and New Adults (18-24). PAINTED PONY BOOKS was born.

Not wanting to leave out contemporary reading for these ages, we also created TORNADO ALLEY PUBLICATIONS. These three imprints are open to anyone to submit to.

Our little anthology was in the TOP 10 in two categories!

But with the amazing talent of the authors, Phyliss Miranda, Tanya Hanson, Jacquie Rogers, Livia Reasoner, Tracy Garrett, Sarah McNeal, and Kathleen Rice Adams—how could it not? I’m very excited to have my story included in this anthology with all these wonderful authors.

We’ve also got some great things planned for our other imprints! Livia and James Reasoner just released a wonderful story for PAINTED PONY BOOKS for our Middle Grade Reader list—THE PHANTOM RANGER AND THE SKATEBOARD GANG—an exciting adventure about a young girl who sees the ghost of her great-great-great grandfather who was a REAL Texas Ranger. Also, from PAINTED PONY BOOKS, Sarah McNeal’s FLY AWAY HEART will be releasing in February, giving us more insight into the Wilding and Pierpont families she has created, with the story of Robin Pierpont and Lilith Wilding set in the early 1900’s. Her other books in this series may be found on Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

INTRODUCING PRAIRIE ROSE PUBLICATIONS! by CHERYL PIERSON

Cheryl7126Have you ever had a dream that “just happened” –before you could think about it anymore, or try to decide how to accomplish it—it was just…there?

One of the things I’ve always “thought about” was opening a publishing company of my own. That would be impossible because as everyone who knows me is well aware, I am NOT a “computer guru” at all. So how could I ever do all the things I’d need to do to open a publishing house? The answer is, I couldn’t.

I’d pretty much let those thoughts go until Livia Reasoner and I were talking about a way to be able to get some brand new, very talented authors “out there” for others to read and enjoy, and this topic came up. As it turned out, we both had the same idea—an imprint for women authors, both well-seasoned and fresh talent, to submit historical westerns and historical western romances.

Since so many women read westerns and western historical romances, Livia and I thought this might be a great way to reach even more women authors who write those kinds of stories.  What we wanted to do was provide a venue for these authors to shine—to get their work “out there” with a publisher who is interested in helping give them a hand navigating the publishing waters and seeing that they get their fair share of profits for their hard work. With that in mind, our imprint, PRAIRIE ROSE PUBLICATIONS, was born!PRAIRIE ROSE PUB PINK logo

Livia and I are so excited to be working together. With her bookkeeping, formatting, and other computer skills and her ability to make such fantastic covers for our books I have no worries. It’s my job to edit, promote and do much of the correspondence (cause I DO love to talk about writing!)

Our first venture will be a Christmas anthology called WISHING FOR A COWBOY. We’ve got a wonderful group of authors lined up for this collection: Phyliss Miranda, Tanya Hanson, Sarah McNeal, Jacquie Rogers, Tracy Garrett, reviewer Kathleen Rice Adams, Livia and me. This short story grouping will be western historical romance, in the sweet to sensual category. All the stories have mentioned a certain holiday food, and the story is either built around the food or can just mention it casually. The recipes will be included in the back of the book, and we are just having a fantastic time with this! WISHING FOR A COWBOY will be available November 1, 2013, in print and digital formats—it’ll make a great Christmas gift for anyone!

Wishing for a Cowboy SmWe also have another anthology of cowboy romance coming your way for Valentine’s Day! It’s called HEARTS AND SPURS, and in addition to all the fine writers listed above, our fellow filly Linda Broday also has a story to contribute. These stories will be a bit “steamier” than the sweet stories in Wishing for a Cowboy. Well, it IS Valentine’s Day!

But it doesn’t stop there! I have a novel coming out early next year called THE HALF-BREED’S WOMAN. More about that in the future, but I am so excited about it that it’s really hard to keep it under wraps a while longer.

Once we opened PRAIRIE ROSE PUBLICATIONS, we got e-mails from writers who wanted to know if we had a children’s line? Did we have a contemporary/futuristic line? Well, how could we say no? So, for the younger readers of western/historical stories (Middle Grade 9-12, Young Adult 13-17, and New Adult 18-24) we opened PAINTED PONY BOOKS. We’ve already had several submissions for this line and look forward to bringing out some excellent quality reading  materials from this imprint.Painted Pony Books Logo O

In addition, we opened FIRE STAR PRESS for contemporary/futuristic books for adult readers, and TORNADO ALLEY PUBLICATIONS for young readers of this same genre. We are having a ball with all this, and are so thrilled with the submissions we have received. Our main goal is to help authors receive the royalty money they are due, and to provide some wonderful reading material for all ages.

We have a brand new website here: http://prairierosepublications.yolasite.com/

If you have questions, you are welcome to contact me at fabkat_edit@yahoo.com or Livia at livia@flash.net

Please wish us well on our new publishing adventure, and come on over to the website for more information on the anthology and submissions procedures.

Thanks for all your support! Here’s a sneak peek at HEARTS AND SPURS (available Jan. 15, 2014).
