The Great Western Christmas Celebration
Next, let’s talk about the sound of Christmas in our town.
Do you hear bells every where you go? Do carolers stroll about the town square? Do the children practice non-stop for the upcoming Christmas pageant? And again, keep the year in mind so we don’t have speakers blaring in a Victorian era town or a hurdy-gurdy show in modern times
Everyone who leaves a response by Saturday 12/13 will get their name entered in the random drawing for a $10 Amazon gift card.

Every entry will also be eligible for our oh-so-beautiful Grand Prize – a gorgeous quilt hand made by our very own Jo-Ann Roberts

NOTE: ALL winners will be announced on Sunday 12/14.
Carolers on the corner and walking to and fro.
Lots of sleigh bells everywhere. Kids having snowball fights and carolers going door to door!
Christmas decorations outside. Fresh garland, bows decorating a porch.
I live way out in the country, so I can only wish and imagine an old fashioned Christmas with sleigh bells and carolers going about in an old fashioned country setting.
Definitely the sound of sleigh bells.
Children practicing their songs. People wishing Merry Christmas to each other in passing.
Carolers on the street corners, definitely!
The sound of the Christmas cantata being practiced comes drifting through the church door and down the street.. Squeals and laughter of children ring in the air as pelt each other with snowballs and sled race on the hill.
In town I hear a child exclaiming over a toy they see on display in a store window hoping they may be lucky enough to get it for Christmas. I hear the steps of shoppers and the tinkle bell on the store doors opening and closing as they wish a Merry Christmas to each other. Horses and wagons pass up and down the street, some with jingle bells attached to them. I hear a group of carolers in the town square singing Christmas songs to a group gathered around to listen.
The local piano teacher hosts a special public holiday recital by her students.
Carolers in the park. Children having snowball fights.
Yes, bells everywhere – the harnesses of the horses, on the doors of the doors on main street and in the church tower – all ringing and jingling joyously while the children play in the snow when they are not otherwise occupied.
There are bells everywhere
The children are indeed practicing for their Christmas pageant at Church. Shopkeepers have hung Christmas bells on their doors, so they jingle everything someone enters or leaves. Carolers practice and then get together to serenade the town close to Christmas.
I think both sleigh bells and church bells can be heard. Also the sound of snow crunching, and people greeting one another with “Merry Christmas”
I think that if there’s music or kids practicing, it should be coming from the church doors that are probably down the street. The doors will be open and you can hear it drifting down Main Street. Sure some might have some sleighbells on there carriages or something. But I think the general sound is just a general merriment amongst everybody. People are out talking and laughing and it’s a positive time of year. There’s kids are out playing, hoping for a free penny candy from the mercantile lol and just laughing because there’s no school!. Just happiness and merriment amongst the town!
You can hear happy singing from the children as they are playing, sleigh bells from the sleighs that are going up and down the streets with young dating couples and bells ringing every time a door opens and closes.
All of the shops should have bells on the doors, and the shopkeepers can be whistling happy Christmas tunes as they sweep the sidewalks.
Carolers are strolling through town in the evenings, as they’re busy working during the day! Some of the stores are staying open a little later, or reopening after their evening meal. The children are singing throughout the day, everywhere they go, along with their regular practice. There are bells in strategic places, so that people (and animals!) don’t get irritated by them.
The only bells I’ve heard are the volunteers that are collecting for Salvation Army and the bells I’ve hung on my doors.
I hear jingle bells attached to the horses or wagons
Carolers and sleighbells on sleighs.
Sleigh bells ring.
Bells ringing and children laughing
For sure carolers and some sleigh bells.
Sleigh Bells ring as horses pull a Beautiful red sleigh as carolers sing Christmas carols through the Main Street of town. It brings back the wonder of the Christmas season and the beauty to behold that God sent his own son to be born in a manger.
maybe some bells ringing in the harness of the horses pulling wagons, and carolers singing as they walk down main street, while store keepers open the doors to listen and maybe even join in as children follow along behind them singing and giggling.
a special night downtown where there is music, carolers, and children singing
Bells ringing, carolers singing, and children laughing.
The church bells are ringing , the carolers are singing and the bells on the halters of the horses are jingling as the pull the sleigh
The church bells, ringing, and the children are laughing and singing enjoying the ride on the wagon with bells on the horses
The children are excitedly practicing for the Christmas play to be held on Christmas Eve at the church. Along with the play there will be candles lit and voices raised in praise to the Lord who was born on Christmas Day. As you walk along Main Street you can often hear someone lifting their voice in song or humming a Christmas tune. Sleigh bells jingle and jangle as they go down the snow covered streets and everyone smiles and greets their friends and neighbors. It’s Christmas!
carolers
Carolers singing and strolling around the town square, maybe a hillbilly band playing instruments
Carolers and sleighs with bells on. People ringing bells on street corners.
In addition to all the previously mentioned sounds, if there were snow it would crunch underfoot or sleigh and if there were icicles, they would add to the sound canvas when they broke and fell.
yes to sleigh bells – they used them on harness to pull wagons too!
We’ve only been here on the foothills of NC 6 years & it’s a tiny town – a lot different from my Denver Colorado of 53 years. But just up the road – a hop, skip and a jump is a church. Those church bells rings two times a day and are currently playing Christmas hymns. They make me tear up almost every time & make me miss my momma so much- (she passed just awhile back this year) but the sound – oh, the majestic sound of those bells peeling praises to the Lord has brought Christmas much closer to my heart this year.
I think we would hear Christmas carols and Church Bells ringing and children laughing and shouting. The buzz of town and the people in the community greeting one another with “Merry Christmas”
carolers stroll about the town square
Bells on harnesses as children throw snowballs at each other on their way to pageant practice.
Sounds of horses, bells and children’s laughter
Harness bells ringing and children making happy sounds as they play in the snow. If it’s very cold the snow will crunch as people and horses move along.
The sound of music and laughter as the children practice carols for Christmas Eve service. Church bells ring.
The children are practicing for the concert Christmas eve. There are strolling carolers along main street. The church bells announce the beginning of Christmas Eve service. Thank you for the opportunity. God bless you.
There are only so many shopping days left until Christmas. The chimes of the bells keep jangling as shoppers keep going in and out of the shop doors. There is lots of laughter. The stores have Christmas music playing, adding to the festive feel.
Children are playing outside in the snow while singing the Christmas songs they have to practice for their Christmas pageant. Ladies are rushing to the shops getting material and getting things that they need for making Christmas gifts. It is such a joyful time of the year, even the horses have bells on them making everything sound so joyful.
The sounds of Hollyberry come from Caroling groups that stroll downtown and through the residential areas. A couple of times during the season they hop up on a hay wagon and venture to outlying farms and ranches to share the music and festivities of the season. A fun sound of the season is when townsfolk converge at the river for a huge skating party, bells jingling, kids shouting and of course Carol’s being sung by all. A highlight for all is Christmas Eve when the children perform the Christmas pageant.
Carolers, church bells, sleigh bells & sleigh with red bows. Children excited to see toys, candy & angels in store windows. Street poles with wreaths & lots of Christmas cheer. What a beautiful town.
Carolers walking around.
We live the country, so no bells or carolers. Our town is an historic town and they have events every weekend with bell ringers and carolers. That would be in keeping with the 1850’s, although in a mining town it might be hard to find bell ringers. There could easily be carolers and the church choir could plan to perform in the town square after church on Sunday and maybe other special days. The church bell could be rung at certain times and stores and even some homes have bells. They could plan a time every day or on special days where everyone rings them at the same time.
I think there will be carolers and sleigh bells and possibly even some church bells ringing.
Family and friends for the Christmas. I just love it.
Christmas carolers and ringing of church bells
Nothing. We live in the country. I see Christmas lights coming home, but thats it.
