It’s Exciting! Ransom Canyon Coming to Netflix!

I’m so happy to announce our dear friend Jodi Thomas wrote the book Ransom Canyon in 2015 and it’s coming to Netflix this Thursday, April 17th! This has been several years in the making since she and Hollywood producer Dan Angel began talking.

Ransom Canyon the book is a compelling, emotional series set in a small West Texas town where family can be made by choice rather than by blood. Staten Kirkland is a rugged and practical rancher who’s having a secret affair with Quinn O’Grady, a woman with secrets of her own. The lives, loves, and ambitions of four families converge in a story that’s hard to forget.

I don’t know about you, but I can hardly wait. This is going to be excellent. And we only have two more days to wait!

Here are the actors:

I’m thrilled for Miss Jodi. She wrote a fantastic series that is so memorable that I can still recall the characters and storylines after ten years. There are so many great story people but Yancy Grey has always lived in my heart.

Here’s the book trailer in case you aren’t convinced yet.

Are you excited yet? I sure am!

Have you read the book? Here’s how it opens:

“Staten Kirkland lowered the brim of his felt Resistol hat as he turned into the wind. The hat was about to live up to its name.”

A true story. After this book came out, the Resistol company sent Jodi their top of the line western hat for women. Here she is wearing it. I always thought that was a cool story.

I may have to dig my copy of Ransom Canyon out and reread it. What do you like most about books that are translated onto the big screen? My favorite thing is watching the characters come alive. Do you plan to watch it?

  1. I’ve been seeing this for a while. I would love to watch it, but sadly I don’t have Netflix. Maybe one day it will be available elsewhere.

    • Linda R, I’m so sorry you won’t be able to watch this. And you’re right, maybe one day it’ll be available to everyone. Much love and have a blessed day.

  2. Good morning everyone! Yes, my husband and I saw this the other night coming soon. I had no idea Jodi wrote it. I’ll try and read the book if it is Kindle unlimited. If not, I’ll watch the movie! How exciting!

    • Tracy, I just checked and sadly the book is not in KU. Yes, Jodi wrote it and I was in a critique group with her and helped critique it and the rest of this series. We’d meet at Amarillo College for two hours to read what we were each working on. It was a fun time. Have a blessed day.

  3. I bought into Netflix because of this series! Yes, I’m a huge book fan of Jodi Thomas! Looking forward to it!

    • Kathy, at last! Someone who plans to watch it. YAY! Yes, you can always cancel once the series is over. I think it’s really going to shine and may be bigger than Virgin River that is taken from Robin Carr’s books. Virgin River has been the most successful of any books to the big screen. I’m just so excited and mostly it’s because I was there at the inception and helped critique each of these in the series. I think Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly are going to be fantastic. Love you, lady.

  4. I hadn’t planned to watch it, I thought it was another soap opera but since you said it’s based on Linda’s book I will give it a try.

    • Naomi, no it’s based on Jodi Thomas’s series. You might check it out to see if it’s anything you want to watch. It’s not a soap opera. Thanks for coming and have a blessed day.

    • Debra, thanks for coming. I do hope you’ll enjoy it. Personally, I think it’ll be really good. I know Jodi will be tickled to death. Have a blessed day, dear friend.

  5. I loved this series of books!!! They are books I have read more than once. Thankfully our daughters put Netflix on my tv. Hope the film version sticks closely to Jodi’s books.

    • Oh great, Alice. I’m so glad your daughters got you set up. From what I hear, the film does follow the book pretty closely I think. Thank you for coming.

  6. Sounds great ! And yes I will start watching it, I love it when the characters come alive in a movie, I am so looking forward to watching it. Have a great day and a great week.

  7. Hi, Linda! I’m so glad you’re letting everyone know about Jodi’s movie! I can’t imagine a higher career point than having a movie made from a book I wrote. She is so deserving. I’m proud of her, and I’m so proud to know her!

    • Pam, I’m just really, really proud of her. She’s wanted this for her entire career and now it’s happening. They have bought her entire body of work so there may be more coming from other series as well. I wish I could hug her. Much love.

  8. I’m so excited for Jodi. I’m finally going to breakdown and get Netflix, just to see Ransom Canyon. I loved this series and now cannot wait to watch it.

    • Tonya, you can always cancel it once the series is over. I don’t have cable just antenna so I keep Netflix so I’ll have access to movies. Love you dearly.

  9. Thanks for an interesting post although I don’t have Netflix. I have watched the TV series Sullivan’s Crossing based on the author Robyn Carr’s book series. The latest season of that show is coming out next month.

  10. I am always interested in books made into movies, as long as I read the book first. I “know” the characters and look forward to seeing them in action. I have been disappointed many times, but am always hopeful.
I didn’t finish the series and will have to get the books out and read/reread what I have.
Unfortunately, we do not have Netflix.

    • Pat, so many people don’t have it. But the books are good. Yancy Grey was my favorite character in this series. He tugged at my heart. I’m glad you stopped by.
