Favorite Things: End of April

The end of April brings oodles of my favorite things! Today is my mom’s birthday (Happy birthday, Mom!)–a favorite thing, for sure.

Winter always seems to last forever here (I live in NW Ohio), and by the end of April, we’re almost finished with the cold weather. There still might be a day or two where I’ll need a winter coat, but for the most part, I can pack away the cold-weather clothing. That’s another of my favorite things–replacing my winter clothes with my summer wardrobe.

We’re big football fans in my house, and while the end of April doesn’t seem like it would be related to football, it is. My husband, son and I went to the University of Michigan spring football game on April 20 to check out the new team. It was COLD! Snowflakes came down twice–not cool, Michigan. We still had a great time! (See pics below)

The end of April also brings the NFL Draft, and I watched it last Thursday and Friday night. I loved seeing where all my favorite players landed. This year the draft was held in Detroit. It looked like a good time!

What else? Since I’m a nature gal, flowers, blooming trees, birds and bunnies and squirrels all make my list. The view outside my windows shouts spring, and I couldn’t be happier about it! In another month, I’ll be hitting up the local farmer’s markets, the botanical gardens, and all the summer fun I’ve been missing. Until then, I’ll enjoy the moment.

Do you have any favorite things for the end of April?

Enjoy your day!

  1. Good morning Jill! I also enjoy April! But, here near Gainesville(Go Gators), it gets hot in a hurry! LOL Unlike you, our winters are short! I guess you and I will play opposites until it comes to nature and flowers! Just a few of my favorite things! Wish I could post my blooming flowers here! My Apostle plant, also known as The Walking Iris, keeps on giving! I’ve never seen it bloom as much has it has this year!

Wishing you all a happy spring!

    • Aww, I love that you’re a Gators fan! College football is the best. 🙂 I don’t think I’ve ever seen an Apostle plant. I’m going to Google it right now! Thank you!

    • I miss gardening! But, honestly, I’m one of those eager gardeners who works hard for about a month, then I get lazy and don’t keep up with it. 🙁 Enjoy your garden!

  2. Yes my birthday was yesterday, I bought my tomato plants yesterday to plant. I love the flowers in bloom and it seems like the whole world is opening up from the winter.

  3. The end of April means we’re another month closer to hurricane season for those of us in Florida! Hopefully, we won’t have a busy season of major hurricanes! It’ll be interesting to know what they sound like with my new metal roof, though, and our afternoon thunderstorms!

  4. Welcome today. We are not sports fans here. It is just my husband and I here now. But we are huge garden/backyard fans. So we are getting ready for planting vegies/herbs. My husband loves to weed. He is getting our flower garden cleaned and ready for the summer. I love all types of flowers and animals. We have a perennial flower garden and a butterfly garden. We have a lot of birds/bees/bunnies/squirrels/etc. I love to can, so I am getting ready for that. quilting dash lady at comcast dot net

  5. I always look forward to baseball season but I’m sort of ‘scared’ of summer because I live in a hot climate and dread days of 110+ degrees although I shouldn’t complain because of A/C. Also, it’s a dry heat haha…

  6. The end of April means just about a month of school left, and then freedom for the summer! I’m a substitute teacher and I have my summers off with my daughters, so we usually make fun plans. My oldest will graduate in less than 3 weeks, so I’m enjoying the last few school days with her before she’ll be off to college in the fall.

    • Yay for summer vacation with your girls! And congrats on your graduate! How exciting!! I’m praying RIGHT NOW that you’ll have peace as she prepares to leave for college later this summer!

  7. Yes, I do. I look forward to lots of flowers blooming but not necessarily in my yard as my green thumb has shriveled up. Not much of my flowers survive my care or the heat.
    Have a blessed day.

  8. April is a very Special month for me, my daughter’s birthday is on April 25th , and I also Love planting in April.

  9. I love the spring flowers. The tulips and daffodils are about gone. Now the irises are starting and the peonies will be blooming soon. I have had some beautiful, and unexpected, double columbine blooming. I know I planted some last year, but I didn’t think they were like these. I am so far behind on my weeding this year. I just finished one bed today. It is the smallest of 6. It does have nice Lilies of the Valley and Bleeding Heart blooming. What I really look forward to every year is the asparagus. We have a 30 x 20 (more or less) asparagus bed. We have Martha Washington and Purple Passion varieties. The Purple Passion is delicious and we are replanting the bed with it as needed.
Our town has Music On The Square every Friday night from May through September. They close off Main Street, set up speakers and mics in front of the Court House steps, and have s different band and food truck each week. People bring their chairs or blankets and set up on the sidewalk and street. It is an enjoyable way to spend the evening. This Friday is the first one. It will feature a local musician who has moved on to Nashville and os doing rather well.

    • I love hearing about your flower beds. They must be beautiful! My mom grows asparagus. It’s so good fresh! Boy, that Music on the Square sounds fun! Enjoy!

  10. Hi Jill
