Marshaling Her Heart is OUT!

It seems to take forever but the book is shipping online and in bookstores!!!!

Marshaling Her Heart

Book three–the exciting conclusion to the Wyoming Sunrise Series is here.

Will their lives and romance survive the trouble coming their way?

Becky Pruitt has always prided herself on knowing everything that’s happening on her successful ranch, so an unexpected admission from her foreman, Nate Paxton, comes as quite a surprise. With the notorious Deadeye Gang on the loose, Nate–a former U.S. Marshal–believes Becky’s ranch is the best spot for a group of Marshals to use as a base to hunt them down.

The timing couldn’t be more crucial for the town of Pine Valley, and Becky feels obligated to help. But after escaping the grasp of her harsh father, she’s never liked giving up control, of her life or her ranch. If there’s anyone she can trust with her ranch, and her heart, it might be Nate. But the outlaws won’t go away quietly, and as danger draws ever nearer, Becky and Nate are faced with impossible choices that will test their growing bond.

So let’s talk about a book series.

Do you like a series? Do you prefer a stand alone book?

I’ve heard some people say they wait for all the books before they’ll start a series.

I always write three book series is that long enough? Do you like them longer?

I think my books stand on their own well. Yes the characters in books #1 and #2 appear in this book. And they’ve had their own love story so they’re now married.

But each book has it’s own beginning, middle and end. So any order you read them in should work.

  1. Yay! I got this in ebook form (That is easier on my eyes because I can make the print bigger). I can’t wait to read it! I do like finding out what the story is on other characters in a series, or what happens next!

    • Not fair to have a book be continued. It’s something I really strive for, to have the book stand alone and yet have some … oh… like over-arching story that pulls through all three. Sometimes that gets tricky

    • Robin good morning. One thing I like to do is weave characters from one book into another series. Example, Nell, from Laws of Attraction, my Justice of the Peace makes an appearance in my next series, coming in February

  2. I love series!!! I also like to read the entire series when they are all out as it make it easier to keep the characters straight. I may get books as they come out but usually wait until I have the whole series to read them if it isn’t too long between books.

    • I heard someone call it ‘existing in that universe’…like a cinematic universe. So if I have a pinkerton agent in one book and need a Pinkerton agent in another series, why not use that same guy. He exists in my created universe, right?

  3. I love series but sometimes it takes a while for the next book to come out so I have to reacquaint myself with the previous characters

    • I just read a series so long I can’t, off the top of my head, remember how many books there were. One of those with a family tree map at the beginning so you know all the players. It’s at least eight books.

  4. I like series, and three is ok. I prefer six, but I’ll take what I can get! lol!! The longest I know of is Tales of the Grace Chapel Inn. There were 46 books, unless they’ve added more that I don’t know about! It was different authors, and was really good.

    • I do enjoy a series and seeing characters from previous books, but I don’t like to wait months for the next book to come out because I forget what happened in the first books. I am loving this series and all of your books that I have read. I especially enjoyed the Trouble in Texas series, but all the rest are great. I pre-ordered this and it is in my Kindle, but I haven’t started it yet.

  5. I love all the series you write. I think the Kincaid brothers may be my favorite and then they show up in some other stories. They were so fun to read about.

  6. Hi Mary – I love to read books in a series. If it is a captivating series – I will read ten books for all I care. Thank you for such wonderful books. I never tire of reading your books. You are so gifted. Thank you!

    • aw, Kathy, thank you so much! Do you end up having specific books within a series you love especially? I’m a big re-reader…that’s how I get to sleep at night. I never have a new book on my night stand. so I pick up favorites…I have a couple of hundred ‘favorites’ and sometimes skim to favorite scenes.

      • If a book with a series becomes boring, I rarely trudge through more books just to say I read a particular series. I love historical western romance. Once in a while, I will read western contemporary by a few of my favorite authors who have moved to contemporary – but that is a hard transition for me.

  7. The book is so good! I almost finished it last night but finally had to quit about midnight. I think three books in a series is perfect. I also like the way you have characters from older series pop in for appearances, although I sometimes have to figure out which one they’re from. Sometimes I recognize them but, since I’ve read almost all of your books now, it can be tricky to place them.

    • I love doing that. But sometimes it gets complicated. I’ve actually gone back and had characters from other series appear in current series BEFORE they appear in their own book…which is in their future.

  8. I love series of books where the characters carry through, in a different capacity. Your books are great that way, because even though the characters are in the other books, the books are able to stand on their own.

  9. Congratulations Mary! Yes, I love series. Meeting new characters and then being able to witness their trials and triumphs is a joy, and I especially love it when there’s fun and laughter included!

  10. I enjoy reading series, but I hate it when you have to wait too long for books to come out. I started one last year, and I think one book comes out each year. That’s too long! I also like it when characters continue to develop throughout a series, though I don’t like it when books can’t be read on their own.

    • Once a year is TOO SLOW! Also, I’ve come into a series really late…have you ever read the Anna Pigeon series from Nevada Barr? Anna Pigeon, a national park ranger so each book is set in a different national park, very cool. but she keeps finding dead bodies and has to solve the crime. The trouble is, I came into that series at about the tenth book level so I start in and read all ten really fast…and Anna, very tough, usually gets badly battered in each book. Once a year that’s bearable. But wow, reading ten books in two months or so and watching poor Anna get beaten up over and over, is just hard.

  11. Hey Mary! I enjoy reading your books! However, most of yours aren’t kindle unlimited. Ulgh! So, I miss out on them!

I also enjoy a series. However, I make sure they are all done and finished before starting one. I don’t mind a couple of months waiting but, a YEAR? Oh no. Sorry, not for me!

  12. I love a good series! I normally read them as they come out, always enjoying the anticipation of the next release.

  13. Hi Mary, I have enjoyed a number of your PAPERBACK books. Like you, I still enjoy holding them in my hands.
Yes, I like a series, however; 3 books to cover it are good. I don’t like a very long book anymore, so 350-400 pages are good for me. Your new series sounds like a very interesting one to read. Have a blessed day….

  14. I do prefer books that come in a series. I like to duck back in and see how the characters are doing and how their lives have changed for the better in the next book, and next book. Marriage, babies, and happily ever afters. 🙂 I am in for it all. I tend to read them as they come out because I am not patient to wait for my favorite author to finish/publish them all. I also read them in order, there are just little bits and pieces that I catch that way and enjoy more. Love your stories, Mary, can’t wait to read Marshaling Her Heart! Love the title too!

  15. I like to read books in a series but no more than 4 books. A lot of the time, if there are many books one can not find them all.
In a good series the characters develop and their feelings and actions are revealed.

  16. I like to read so much it doesn’t matter to me if it is a standalone or a series. I like both. If it is a series, I like that the characters are featured in all the books in the series.

  17. I like book series, but I do appreciate when each book can be read on its own. If there is too much of a cliffhanger, I often choose to wait until I have all the books in the series before I start reading. Your books always make me smile. TY, Mary!

  18. I love series! In some cases three isn’t enough because even some background characters I feel have a story too but I think most of the time three is a really good number to stick too! I don’t know how people wait until they are all out to start one lol I’m not that patient ?

  19. I love a series. Sometimes I read them when they come out—like this series. Other times I wait until they are all out and read them one after the other!

  20. I love book series! I love to find out from book to book how the characters have grown and what has happened to them. I love it when there are families and they have children and they their children children have little families of their own. Yes 3 is good for a series as long that it ends good and there are no cliffhangers unless there are more books to come. I love stand-alone s also, when I read , I like to read series and standalone , I will alternate reading a series and then a standalone. Your books sound like great reads! Have a great day and a great rest of the week.

  21. I do love a good series, even though some times it takes a chapter or two to recall the previous book’s characters. They can be long or short. By the time I finish a series of 6 or more, they have become a part of my family. I can hardly live without them! Mary, your books are very good and entertaining. Congratulations on your most recent release.

  22. I love a good series! It doesn’t matter how long the series is, especially if the series centers around a town and not necessarily just a particular family.

  23. I think a three book series is a good length. It’s enough to get really into it but not so long you get tired of the setting or characters. Denise Hunter has several series about that length I think

  24. Thank you so much for sharing as well as the opportunity. I enjoy series. I have read all the Hannah Swensen mysteries. I enjoyed Beverly Lewis’ Heritage of Lancaster County books. God bless you.

  25. I am one of those who likes to have all the books in a series before I start reading them. It keeps the characters and story arc fresh from book to book. Three or four books is the perfect length for a series for me. There are many out there that are over 8 books long and it is hard for me to keep up the interest to continue the series. It is nice to be able to revisit favorite characters from earlier books in a series. That being said, I do enjoy stand alone books too.

  26. I do enjoy series as well as standalones. I think three is a great amount. I don’t have a problem with more than three as long as the author keeps it fresh and entertaining.

  27. I enjoy stand-alones & series. I think I like to go back & forth between the two. For the most part, a trilogy is plenty long enough, although if I fall in love with the characters, it’s hard to let them go. haha
I’ve read longer series before, but sometimes if there’re too many it can get a little tedious. It’s kinda hard for me to commit to reading so many back-to-back.
I just finished Marshaling Her Heart last night & it was great! It was a fine conclusion to the trilogy… & I’ll admit it was a little sad to let the characters go! 🙂

  28. I like books that are in series, but only if the books are good. There are some stories that descend into garbage. Inherit the Stars and the first 3 books in the series are great, but the last 2 stink. Others seem to get better as they go along.

  29. Series are good because you don’t always want to say goodbye. But then at the same time I don’t always have the money to buy more books just to be able to see how their life story ends. So then to have it not to be a series is nicer. Besides. The series doesn’t always come quickly so I’d need to go back and read the book that came before. So. Saying all that. I guess not a series. Gaaah!

  30. A 3 or 4 book series where the characters continue to learn & grow or you see other characters have their own stories with updates on the prior characters are some of my favorites. When books go longer, I tend to lose interest or because I usually read books a few years later due the size of my TBR pile, I feel a little overwhelmed when they go on & on. But I have to say my favorite quiet time is to read. There’s a peace I find there.
