Would you believe I just read a book with one section set in hstorical Deadwood, South Dakota?
I didn’t see that coming when I started reading a Michael Crichton book–Dragon’s Teeth.
They called it Deadwood City and it was set very shortly after the death of Wild Bill Hickock.
Anyhow, I read it and
NOW I’M GOING!!!
I went to the Black Hills only once before in my life. And it’s just ONE STATE AWAY!!! (granted, it’s a BIG state)
I remember a few beautiful lakes. I remember that Mt. Rushmore was a long way away from whatever observation station we were at and thinking there oughta be a way to get closer. And I remember we went to a Flintstone Theme Park.
I find it pretty embarrassing that I remember that Flintstone park as well as anything.
I wonder if it’s still there?
We went to the ‘in progress’ statue of Crazy Horse. This was a LONG time ago. It’s way farther in progress now.
So anyway, my plans for this weekend are a little sight seeing. A lot of just sitting and talking to the EIGHT P & P Fillies who will be there SIGNING BOOKS on June 17. And meeting a lot of great readers!!!!!
Just TWO MORE DAYS!!!!!
Pam Crooks
Karen Witemeyer
Shanna Hatfield
Winnie Griggs
Julie Benson
Kari Trumbo

If you’re anywhere close come on over.
I’ll be signing copies of two books. Forged in Love and Laws of Attraction. Books #1 and 2 of the Wyoming Sunrise Series.
To celebrate, today I’m giving away a $25 Amazon gift card to one lucky commentor. Tell me if you’ve ever been to Mt. Rushmore. Tell me which additional president you’d like to see added. Tell me if that Flintstone Theme Park is still there.
It’s probaby Lego land or something by now.
And, did you know they started Abe Lincoln’s head to the left of Washington and the rock was wrong and they had to shave his face off and move it???!!! I want to add a Mt. Rushmore picture but I’m not sure of copyright laws. i mean the STATUE is old enough, but what about whoever took the picture?
And there really is a cave bored into Mt. Rushmore like in National Treasure 2. There were big plans for that cave to truly hold national treasures but they were abandoned (or not!!!!!)
Maybe I’ll see you in South Dakota.

Per wikipedia, the Flintstones Theme Park closed in 2015–now a campground. There was another one (probably unrelated) in Arizona and it is also closed (2019).
I haven’t been to Mt. Rushmore. I wouldn’t add another president.
have fun at the signing!

AZ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bedrock_City_(Arizona)
SD https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bedrock_City_(South_Dakota)
sounds like they were semi-related
Hi Denise. Okay, well, the Flintstones are sort of out of date I suppose. And I wsn’t goign there anyway. 🙂
No more presidents. I agree.
they love one with cocoa pebbles and fruity pebble cereal
**live on
Thank you for the ebook on sale!
My husband & I took our children to Mt. Rushmore when they were teens & I was underwhelmed. I expected there to be more natural beauty & less crowds, but I can say I went!
While traveling, we also stopped by some caves & we enjoyed them quite a bit more. I guess I’m more of a nature lover & not a crowd person!
My husband and I arrived in Deadwood yesterday, and I’m looking forward to meeting the fillies who are coming.
Never been and would add another president.
It’s a beautiful area. There’s a lake here called … i think Sylvan Lake, the trees and mountains reflected in the water. It’s just stunning. I remember that from before.
My husband and I camped overnight at Sylvan Lake on our honeymoon 49 years ago. It was Sept. 3 and freezing. There was a snowman on the lodge lawn. But more beautiful than it is now. So many people now.
Have been many times to Mt Rushmore, and to Flintstone Park in the 80’s.
What times are you there for the book signing?
I haven’t been but I would like to
Hi Rhonda. Add it to your list. And drive through the Badlands while you’re at it.
Not been but plan to one day lol. I don’t think I would add another president. I wish I was closer,I’d come see you in Deadwood.
It’s cowboy central here in Deadwood. Shootouts on main street every day.
I have been to Mt Rushmore and have camped nearby to take in the city of Keystone. It is amazing. I’m not sure if I would add another President. Maybe President Reagan if I HAD to choose. I look forward to seeing you all in Deadwood. I’m so happy to get to meet you. Petticoats & Pistols has brightened my world.
camping? Wow, tough girl!!!! We’ll see you Saturday!!!
I wouldn’t add another President. I feel like that was the time for then and it should stay preserved as history. I’ve never been. I’d like to, but so little time and many more places to see!
Wishing you all a wonderful time!
I’ve never been to Mt Rushmore, though it’s on my bucket list!! I wish I could be at Deadwood!!
I would love to see Mt Rushmore and Crazy Horse in person and also to meet all you beautiful ladies. Have a great few days catching up with each other.
I’ve never been there but it’s on my bucket list!
I’ve kinda given up on a bucket list. I’m pretty content at home these days. 🙂 Good for you, for having one.
We went to Mount Rushmore 5 years ago. It was really neat, but I have to admit that I found Crazy Horse much more interesting because there was a lot more to see and do there. I wouldn’t add another president. I like it the way it is.
I think the ‘caving people into mountains’ era is over. 🙂 It is beautful.
I’ve never been but would like too. I wish I could be at the book signing. I hope you have a great time. I love your books.
Linda, it’s very tourist friendly here. You should check out the Black Hills.
I have been to the area twice, first with husband #1 and we camped out. My son was about 4 years old when we visited Flintstone theme park. I still have a black and white pic of him. The second time I was with husband #2, just us, and we got close to Mt Rushmore but not in as it had changed to being charged to even get close to the monument. ( I do not believe we should add another president, but my only choice would be Reagan as well) On our trip we also visited Deadwood where we went to the cemetery and saw the graves of Annie Oakley and some men (sorry, the names slip my old memory), Lead, a Blackhills Gold factory and store and lots of other sites in the area. I love this part of the country and the history lessons one can pick up if they take the time. Such a wonderful and rich history we have in these United States.
I want to look around Deadwood more. So far I came to the house we’re staying in and haven’t left.
Mt Rushmore is at the very TOP of my bucket list!!
Many years ago, when I was a teenager, I visited Mt. Rushmore on a family car vacation. We also enjoyed the national park and state park nearby and visited historic Deadwood. It was such a great trip. I would not add or change the monument. Probably the Flintstones were there at the time, but I don’t remember them! I had read some earlier postings about the author event, and it sounds like so much fun. I wish I lived within a reasonable distance and could attend. Best wishes for an enjoyable gathering!
Never visited Mt. Rushmore
I’ve never been to Mt. Rushmore but would like to go one day. If I had to choose one president to add it would be JFK. He’s probably not the best choice but I did a research report on him during my elementary school years so he’s the one that immediately comes to mind. I did an online search for the Flintstones Theme Park (I still love to watch that cartoon) and found that the entire site was bulldozed in April 2019. I’m sure you guys will have fun. I’d make the trip if it weren’t so far. Thanks for the chance to win a prize.
I have never been to Mt Rushmore but I’ve seen I’ve seen the National Treasure movies. ? I would love to see Deadwood but I figure I’ll never make it to any of those places. I live in NC and my husband doesn’t care about going. That’s ok I’ll keep reading books about those places.
I’ve been to South Dakota a couple of times when my family used to drive from California to Minnesota to see relatives. On one of our trips we stopped at Mount Rushmore, what I remember is that it was huge & since it was in August, it was summer weather & warm. That was when I was probably 14 or 15, so 35 years ago. Wow, I feel old, LOL. I remember seeing Crazy Horse from the parking lot & at that time he looked like he was barely started & that the Black Hills were beautiful. At the time, my feelings were that I didn’t want to stop, I just wanted the trip to be over & to be at our destination. 🙂
I’vw not been to Rushmore. But I’d love to go. Maybe Ronald Reagan should be added? Or Eisenhower.
Wish I could be there in person this weekend. Hope ya’ll have a great time!
We went once when our kiddos were 4 and 2. (now 39 and 37). We went camping and had a blast. We took in Mount Rushmore and so much more. We went into a town that was all wood and sooo cool. There was a motorcycle group that had come through. This one couple fell in love with our two tow head children. My husband was really doubtful. After all they were kinda grungy and they rode motorcycles. (that night after the kids were asleep we had a nice talk) Anyway, both of our kiddos sat next to the couple and the four of them had a wonderful conversation. The couple didnt touch the kids but I could see in their eyes the immense joy they were getting just talking to our two. The next day we went out to an air plane museum and then checked back into the town again for dinner. And yup you guessed it. The couple was there and they had saved four seats for us. The children loved to tell them all about the museum and other places we visited that day. I feel like the Lord put us in their path for a reason. My gut was telling me that we needed to share the Lord with them. And our two kiddos and I did just that. The lady had tears in her eyes and the man looked lost. I have prayed for years after that, that the Lord brought someone into their lives that they could connect with Christ.
I had so looked forward to going to Deadwood for this event. However my daughter has a conference and several meeting and needed me to watch her daughter while she attends. I’ll just have to be satisfied with 4 weeks in Germany and the Netherlands.
We have been to South Dakota twice. For me, Mt. Rushmore was a disappointment. Much too commercialized and just didn’t have the feel of a National Park. We really preferred the Crazy Horse location. We stayed outside of Deadwood and traveled to the Rosebud Reservation for their big Pow Wow and rodeo. Custer Park and that whole area has much to see. The drive through Spearfish Canyon where parts of Dances With Wolves was filmed was enjoyable and took us to The High Plains Western Heritage Center which is well worth a visit. We did spend time in Deadwood and Sturgis. There was more we wanted to see, but we ran out of time on the first trip. We only went to Mt. Rushmore when we took our grandson out for a trip through the west. There is still more in the area I would like to see.
We have visited the homes of several other presidents. I would like to make it to Lincoln’s birthplace. We have been to Mt. Vernon (Washington), Monticello (Thomas Jefferson), The Hermitage (Andrew Jackson), the LBJ Ranch, and live about 10 miles from Andrew Johnson National Historic Site. We were going to President Carter’s but it was closed the day we were down that way at Andersonville Prison and National Cemetery.
Enjoy the weekend. I am really sorry I will be missing this. I can hope there will be another such event where so many of you will be present.
I was able to visit Mt. Rushmore in 2017 when I was in SD on a mission’s trip. The monument is grand and inspiring. Then the van broke down, and our group was stuck in the Black Hills during a thunderstorm. It was quite the trip!
Calvin Coolidge would be a fantastic addition to Mt. Rushmore, though he never aspired to fame. (My mom started reading aloud his autobiography, and it is interesting.)
I have never been to Mt. Rushmore. I would like to see John F. Kennedy added. Thank you so much for sharing. God bless you.
We went to Mount Rushmore in the rain May. Nice way to avoid crowds! I wouldn’t add another president.
Never been but would love to someday. I would love to see Ronald Reagan added.
