My Favorite Christmas Ornament

Wooden sign and bird in snow

There was a time when I seemed to have more time on my hands and a crafty inclination.

These four Christmas stockings came out of that time.

As you might guess some of the children were considerably OLDER Than the others when their stocking was finally done.

I used to crochet and knit and embroider.

These stockings are crewel work and I always feel like they are artwork. I love them.

And they are carefully packed away every year after Christmas. Finding them and hanging each stocking by the…well, Christmas tree…with care…is my favorite part of Christmas

I hope you had a Merry Christmas and are looking forward to the New Year with…shall we say 2020 vision

I hope your Christmas was merry and bright. God bless you all in the New Year.

    • Those stockings are amazing. They are like art work. Beautifull. I love hanging the Christmas stockings every year. Some of them are so old but seeing them brings back wonderful memories.

    • Abigail, my oldest daughter decided to make stockings like these (they came from a kit) for her own children and she’s VERY crafty and would have done it well. And she finally gave up. She couldn’t find elaborate crewel work stocking kits like these anywhere. They must not make them anymore.
She ended up buying them………….from Pottery Barn Kids.

  1. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

My favorite ornament is an angel I’ve had for more than 25 years. I had to hot glue her wings in place this year.

    • Did you see that last picture of my Christmas angel. I LOVED that thing and waited until I found it one year AFTER Christmas for halfprice. And my kids seem to enjoy making fun of it! The brats. They say it reminds them of a Chucky Doll.

  2. Those are beautiful stockings!! my daughters gave me a Mickey Mouse stocking this year as one of my gifts and had it packed with all kind of favorite candy and such. It may have been one of my favorite gifts I am also a huge Mickey Mouse person so anything Mickey is amazing

  3. Your stockings are gorgeous. I make one for each of my cats when they are babies and put them out every year. My favorite ornament is a Lenox cat that my ex’s grandmother gave me a long time ago. One year one of my cats broke it and I was lucky enough to find a replacement on Ebay. Even though it’s not the exact same one, it still holds the same memory. I also have a ceramic Christmas tree with colored marbles in place of the balls. It has a light inside and when you light it up, the light shines through the marbles. My mother made it when I was a little girl and I always loved it. She gave it to me several years ago. I haven’t put it out the last couple years because my youngest cat can’t be trusted. I’m afraid she might break it during one of her wild run around moments.

  4. My son has a stocking that was cross stitched that my girlfriend made for him when he was a baby. He is 30 now so its been with us for many years.

  5. Beautiful stockings! I painted a ceramic Christmas village for my parents when I was about 19 and it is one of my favorite parts of their Christmas decor and parents have a ton of decor!

  6. We never had stockings when I was growing up. Now, two of my sisters do them for their children and greandchildren. Mom and I did receive a stocking this year, from a neighbor down the street. It will now hold some sentimental value!

  7. Those are amazing and so cool! My hubby’s mom has knitted stockings for people since before he was even born. Before I even knew him my mom had ordered stockings from her for our family. It was neat to bring my stocking, knitted by his mother, to our new marriage and home.

  8. Mary, your stockings are beautiful! Several years ago, I made some counted cross-stitched ones.

May your 2020 be filled with clearer vision and more of His Presence!

  9. Your stockings are definitely works of art. My Mother-in-law made felt stockings with appliques for ourgirls. My husband and I have granny square ones made by a friend. I have made appliqued felt ones for our son-in-laws and grandchildren. They definitely bring back memories each year as I hang them by the fireplace.

  10. Your stockings are wonderful. What memories. Hope you have a wonderful week that is full of relaxation and looking forward to what God wants for you in the coming year. Blessings to you and your family.

  11. These stockings are lovely and definitely works of art. We got very little decorating done this year. We were overcome by events and ran out of time. We put up our 4 foot tree with 6 new ornaments I got this year and let our granddaughter put candy canes on it when they got here. It is getting harder and harder every year to do all I used to do for the holidays. It is one thing about getting older I resent. (And yes, there are others.)
