Meet Kristine Lynn…and enter to win a book!

Hi, all! I’m so excited to join you at Petticoats and Pistols! As I write this blog, I’m on a farm in Ireland (no kidding!) researching my next book series about a small-town family-owned farming collective that is up against foreign investors who want to buy their centuries-owned land. I’ve been taking notes as I go, but honestly, there’s not anything I’m likely to forget, as every new experience is imprinted in my mind forever.

It’s as picturesque and majestic as you can imagine, especially where we’re at now, on the southwest coast. The rolling fields dotted with black and white cows, sheep, and horses, pinned against the Atlantic Ocean as a backdrop, paint a delightful picture of life on a farm, but it’s not all roses. Life here is hard. Family farms, like in the States, are harder to manage as children are seeking out opportunities away from their parents’ obligations. The costs of working a farm are rising, and tariffs mean there may not be a place for their product in foreign markets.

Still, the romance we look for in farming and western living is coming through in spades. Though cowboys and western themes look different here, there are a couple key details I’ll be adding to my books for sure. The image of a hard-working cowboy on the back of a horse is even more alluring when he comes with an Irish brogue, for one! As are the brilliant family values the Irish portray. Another sweet detail is how the farmers and ranchers all meet at a local pub at the end of a long day to chat about life, families, or even broker some deals in “the office.” What a fun way to stay connected to community!

Anyway, as I write this with that in mind, I’m also very aware of what it means to be a romance writer who writes westerns. I’ve been thrilled to see how that looks in other countries and to share some of that with you. Though I’m known for my Montana and Texas series of cowboys, I’m excited to expand that to include cowboys from across the globe. Who knows, maybe I’ll even have one of my Irish heroes come stateside to consult a dairy farm where he’ll meet a sassy American lass that makes leaving for home impossible!

What do you think? Let me know your thoughts on international cowboys and how they sit with you, the reader. I can’t wait to talk more, and until then, here’s my website where you can check out my other western series! The latest from Tule Publishing, Any Cowboy of Mine, comes out in October! 1. An international cowboy? I wonder how they would compare to the American Cowboy. There is just something about a cowboy.

  2. Welcome today. Thanks for sharing your post. Oh but your idea with an a cowboy coming to America an running into a sassy lady sounds like so much fun. I love cowboys so much. They are the gentlemen of the west and know how to treat a lady. I would be very interested in cowboys from around the globe.

  3. When I hear the word cowboy, I think first United States, then Australia, not Ireland.it just seems like a foreign concept.

  4. No matter what country a cowboy lives in, they always have the same values-a sense of honor, love of country and family.

  5. Many years ago when I toured Europe I found the Irish people to be the friendliest of all. And I loved it that everything was green( a favorite color of mine). Even the red haired, green eyed beautiful stewardesses on their airline. They wore beautiful dark green suits. And there were tiny light green shamrocks on the wallpaper of their planes. I loved touring Ireland.

  6. Good morning, how exciting , you are in Ireland!! Now Ireland is a place I would love to visit. 8. Your trip sounds fascinating and memorable. What a special place to explore. Cowboys have ever since I was young been a source of fascination and wonder. Their values and backbone are something no one else can aspire to.

  9. I love clean western romance books and I it sounds exciting to read about ranches and cowboys set in another country. It must be wonderful to travel to other countries to do research for your next novel. Can’t wait to read it. Would also love to read about a cowboy coming to America and meeting the love of his life.

  10. I have always wanted to go to Ireland and my best friend got to go one time because that is where her mother was from and she had family there. Her grandfather came here one time and I got to meet him and I loved to listen to him talk.

  11. When I think of books featuring “cowboys”, I think of the USA west, Canadian prairie provinces, or Australian outback. Never thought of Ireland except for the Irishmen who moved to one of these.

  12. Welcome to the Fillies! I enjoyed your descriptions of modern Irish farming life. People from all over the world were coming to America for a new opportunity. My own books have included German, Swedish, and Italian farmers and ranchers. No, wait, I have an Irish family moving west, too! Go for it. ;o]

  13. Ireland is one of the place I wish I could visit! It looks like such a beautiful place. I do enjoy books about cowboys and when I think of those I think old West and America. Clean romance with swoony cowboys and determined fillies make great stories

  14. I was born in Montana and I remember attending a family reunion at my aunt and uncle cattle ranch where we saw them brand cattle.

  15. Although I think I would more partial to an American cowboy, I would enjoy reading a little something different about an international cowboy as long as it is a good romance also.

  16. I like books about cowboys . I love the cover and this sounds like a great book. Thank you for sharing.

  17. I love the idea of an Irish cowboy! I’ve always wanted to visit Ireland, maybe someday, but I love visiting it via books.

  18. I will have to admit that I am having a hard time picturing a cowboy in Ireland. Sheep and dairy farming don’t usually bring out that image. Ireland on the other hand is a place dear to my heart. It is the home of my ancestors and it is one place I have been trying to visit. Unfortunately, every time I start planning, something major comes up to cancel all plans. I really hope we can make it next year.
The cowboy ethic can still be found in those who are not really cowboys. The respect for the land, the animal, family, and those they love can be found in many other places and people. It is certainly something to be found in the Irish who have fought so long and hard for their land and way of life. I am sure your blended Irish/cowboy stories will be interesting and good. I look forward to seeing what you do with it.

  19. I have always thought that Ireland was beautiful country. I have some Irish in me. I have never been able to travel there. We are unable to travel due to being disabled. I am always enjoying going there with reading. Thank you so much for being here as well as the opportunity. God bless you.

  20. I love cowboy/rancher books. At one time we owned a 660 acre ranch. My daughters and I are considering a trip to Ireland next year! I can’t wait for this book!

  21. I like to read books that include someone from another country because of the way a different culture shows up.

  22. I have heard that Iceland is a very beautiful place.
Cowboys from anywhere are usually a great read!!!!!!!!

  23. How fun an international cowboy, very interesting! Who doesn’t love a cowboy Certainly not me. I would love to go to Ireland some day, definitely on my bucket list.

  24. Cowboys are such hard workers, no matter where they live, and make for an enjoyable read. I enjoyed your post. Ireland is on my list of places I would love to visit if I could afford to.

  25. I love reading about cowboys! They’re such hard workers and down to earth. I don’t think I’ve read any international cowboys yet, but it could be a lot of fun!
