Yay! No More Political Ads!

It’s election day in the USA, and I, for one, am glad. Why? Well, let me start by saying that I consider it pretty amazing I can vote, and I do love my country. However, they aren’t the reasons I’m glad the election will be over. Nope, I’m thrilled because, as of tonight, I won’t have to sit through another political ad for a long, long time.

The ads started earlier than usual this year and ramped up each week. It hasn’t been uncommon to see the same advertisement repeated five, ten (one hundred?) times in an hour. Okay, maybe one hundred is stretching it a bit, but the commercials wear on you like water dripping on dry clay. Plus, there are only two or three ads for each candidate, so you can recite each one by heart after a few hours of watching television.

It’s been a lot. Too much.

If you haven’t gotten the message–I AM SO GLAD  I DON’T HAVE TO SEE POLITICAL ADS ANYMORE! No more commercials. No more stacks of political mailers to toss in the trash every day. I can resume throwing out the regular mailers–the roofing ones and credit-card offers! Yippee!

So, I’m sighing in relief. I’m wrapping up in my favorite cozy throw. And I’m basking in normal commercials. I’m even excited for the Christmas ones! We’ll see what company makes me cry first this year. A few years ago, a Dick’s Sporting Goods Christmas commercial had me sobbing. They really know how to tug on the heartstrings. This particular one, The Hoop, featured a dad and his little girl playing basketball, and it shows her growing up. With my own kids getting older, boy, it got to me. Here’s THE HOOP (linked) if you’d like to watch, and I’m embedding it below.

So, yes, lots to look forward to starting tomorrow. I can enjoy my morning coffee and watch Good Morning Football  in peace. Last Friday I purchased three bags of Halloween candy at half-off (Twix, Reese’s, and KitKats–yummy!)–I might have one of each to celebrate. I have a new jigsaw puzzle waiting for me. Four novels are stacked haphazardly on the end table. Have I started recording Hallmark Movies? You betcha!

I am ready to relax and enjoy the rest of the year! Who’s with me?

*Please NO political comments–we’re all getting through the day as best we can!! Any political comments will be removed.*

Do you, like me, get sappy at the Christmas commercials?

Have the best day!

  1. To the person that invented the MUTE function — THANK YOU!!
Those who live in a media market that covers state boarders…..I pity you!
My sister did for a while and had 3 state and (seemed like) 100 Congressional and local races.

  2. I have been hitting the mute button for several weeks for political ads. I haven’t watched any Christmas movies yet, but I sometimes get emotional when I do.

  3. I spend so much of my spare time reading that I rarely watch any television and don’t see most of the ads.

  4. I echo the THANKS for the MUTE button!!!! I’ve been over all the political brouhaha before it started. I’ve voted for 60 years, can decide by myself who will best serve me and don’t need the media/politicians telling me how to cast my ballot.

  5. When my brother isn’t staying with me, I don’t even turn my TV on I would rather read. He tapes his shows so he can fast forward through the commercials, so I am spared all the political ads get enough in junk mail.

  6. I am very happy there will not be any more political ads. Thank you so much for sharing. God bless you.

  7. These ads have been infuriating lately, especially the ones for the person I do not want in office as it will be a total disaster and we will face war much sooner than later, probably with China. OOPS! Now you got me started.
I semi kind of like Christmas commercials and also movies. A few go a long way with me, usually.

  8. Good morning, I am so ready for the political adds to be done with. I love sappy Christmas everything and I am ready for that for sure, first we will have Thanksgiving though, some stores start Christmas way too soon, it seemed like Halloween was competing with Christmas at the stores this year.

  9. Will be so glad when no more political ads are shown. I am very sappy when it comes to Christmas ads and movies.

  10. I watch ad-free Netflix, so I haven’t seen a single political commercial, but I’ve gotten plenty of flyers in the mail. I got two in one day from the same candidate! It makes me NOT want to vote for them, because if you have to spend that much money to brag on yourself, you probably aren’t worthy of my vote! I do love sappy Christmas commercials. I remember a particular one from Folgers that featured a young man showing up to a house very early in the morning, and a little girl waking up all excited to see him. He shushed her and told her they were going to surprise everybody, and then he started a pot of coffee. The smell woke everyone up, and they came downstairs to find him there. It made me cry every time! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4kNl7cQdcU

  11. I am ready for all the political ads to be over and I love the Christmas commercial and the Christmas movies.

  12. So excited for no more political mail, too! I get about ten flyers a day. Sick of it. Yes, I get more emotional for ads the older I get. My kids think it is funny. Lol

  13. Oh, I agree 1000%!!!! I’m sooooo over them!! I like to watch the Publix ads for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Yes, they have some for Thanksgiving!!!! Their ads are always soooooo good!!! This is one of my all-time favorite commercials: https://www.google.com/search?q=fatherhood+commericial+where+dad+is+cheerleading+with+daughter&rlz=1C1CHBD_en-GBUS1024US1024&oq=fatherhood+commericial+where+dad+is+cheerleading+with+daughter&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOdIBCTE4MTU1ajBqOagCBrACAQ&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:08b5f712,vid:lNKiExT-A3I,st:0

You’ve got to check it out!!

  14. I remember when I had little kids, the political ads would ore them so badly, then the Christmas ads and I’d get so sick of them. Then, after Christmas here came the non-profit fundraising ads and I figured they were free, the station was meeting their required donation goals with them.

  15. AMEN to no more political ads for a good little while! 🙂

And welcome to Christmas movies; I just picked up a couple Christmas DVD’s (50 cents each!) at our public library’s fall fundraising used book sale.

  16. I agree wholeheartedly. We had started muting the political ads.
I look forward to the Christmas ads. Hallmark always has good ones. Budweiser ads with the Clydesdale horses usually has one worth watching multiple times. We will see who comes up with good ones this year.
