Marrying the Mechanic

I love October. And roses. And chocolate. Warm bread fresh from the oven. Captain Cavedweller. And books!

In fact, I have a new book releasing October 24 that I’m excited to share with you today.

Marrying the Mechanic is book 7 in my wholesome small-town Summer Creek series. It can be read as a stand alone, but it’s fun to follow along with the series and all the quirky characters who live there!

A heartwarming journey of love, growth, and the bonds that tie hearts together even when life leads down unexpected paths.

Mechanic Jace Easton grapples with the sudden changes happening around him. His younger sister, Tassie, has always relied on him, but now she’s off traipsing around the globe with the prince of her dreams. As Tassie prepares to step into her future, Jace is confronted with the harsh truth that she has matured, and so has her best friend, Deena. The deepening attraction he feels for Deena—a pull that becomes increasingly difficult to ignore—leaves him further unsettled and struggling to accept his new reality.

Deena Durant may earn her living welding farm equipment, but her true passion lies in crafting metal sculptures. Alongside her artistic dreams, she clings to the hope that Jace might eventually see her as more than his sister’s friend. Until then, she conceals her feelings and does her best to encourage him as everything familiar shifts into unchartered territory.

When Jace and Deena work together to help Tassie’s dreams come true, will they discover their own path to true love?

Marrying the Mechanic is a celebration of unexpected love, personal growth, and the power of relationships in a wholesome, small-town romance.

Here’s an excerpt from the story. It’s from the first scene when Jace realizes Deena has grown up.

~*~

The newer deep blue metallic pickup looked like the one Tassie’s best friend, Deena, drove. The dog in the back, leaning around the side of the crew cab with its tongue lolling out of its mouth sure looked like Deena’s mutt, Cleo. But the long-legged beauty sliding out of the pickup wasn’t someone Jace recognized.

The breeze carried her scent to him, and Jace drew in a deep lungful of the fragrance that was a mixture of vanilla, peaches, and something spicy he couldn’t identify but found entirely intriguing.

The pretty woman took a step toward him, her pink lips curving into a wide smile. Slowly, she lowered her sunglasses and Jace took a staggering step back, bracing himself on the bumper of the pickup.

His rescuer wasn’t a stranger after all.

Deena Durant had grown up and changed—seemingly overnight—into an alluring woman. When had it happened? How had he failed to notice?

The change in Deena caught Jace squarely in the jaw, delivering a blow he wasn’t prepared to receive. He rubbed his hand over the scruff on his chin, and too late, realized he’d just smeared grease all over his face.

Today just happens to be my birthday, so I have a special gift for you. It’s a short story, a recipe, and some other fun goodies you can download and / or print.  Just click the button below to get your copy!

After spending her formative years on a farm in Eastern Oregon, hopeless romantic Shanna Hatfield turns her rural experiences into sweet historical and contemporary romances filled with sarcasm, humor, and hunky western heroes.
When this USA Today bestselling author isn’t writing or covertly hiding decadent chocolate from the other occupants of her home, Shanna hangs out with her beloved husband, Captain Cavedweller.

  1. Happy Birthday! Billionaire for a day sounds unique. It would be a nice change to know I have enough money to pay the bills and buy a few books. I don’t think one day would be enough to buy an entire library of books. I suppose if money weren’t an issue and I knew enough, I’d want to be a tour guide.

  2. Happy Birthday blessings wished for you today.
I always wanted to be a ballerina, but definitely feel more like a counselor with my adult children. Though billionaire is an intriguing thought, not sure a day would be enough.

  3. Happy Birthday Shanna! Well, mine isn’t listed, but I’ll let you guess who it is! LOL Although over the many hurricanes that have came over the years, I have walked/rode in the aftermath of Hugo in SC and Andrew in south Florida. Have you guessed yet? Please give prayers to those hurricanes have affected our neighbors to our north after Hurricane Helene and those that will be affected south of us with Hurricane Milton.

I’m not much of a contemporary reader, but I love the sound of this book! Especially making sculptures with farm equipment! Too cool! I plan to read it! And thank you for the free gift!

    Many blessings Shanna always!

    • I think I did guess! 🙂
Thanks for the birthday wishes. All those affected by the hurricanes our in my thoughts and prayers. So, so sad. Glad you are safe!
And if you read this story, I hope you love it!
      Thank you so much, Tracy!

  4. Thanks for the little goodies. I printed the coloring pages for my grandsons. I have to babysit as school is cancelled for Milton’s visit.

  5. Happy birthday! I would love to be a cowboy girl again for a day. My family raised cattle when I was growing up, but we had to sell them in 2017 when my dad’s cancer progressed and he was put on hospice. I miss that lifestyle, and I really miss my dad.

  6. Happy Birthday! Three appeals to me – rancher, waitress, and outdoor guide. I have experience being a waitress, but the other two would be something I would like to try.

  7. Happy Birthday! Since I already live the life of a rancher being an Outdoor Guide in the wilds of Northern British Columbia or Alaska would be awesome.

  8. Happy Birthday Shanna! May you have a Blessed Day. I would choose a mechanic, my dad was a mechanic and I would help him clean tools, and later on in life, we would talk and he told me that he didn’t know why he hadn’t taught me mechanics stuff, and I never really asked. I loved to go in his garage and play on the rolling jacks and on the little carts that go under the cars, I actually have one of his. Have a great day Shanna. Thank you for the chance, your book sounds like a great read and I love the book cover.

  9. I have been a few of those choices but today I would like to be a billionaire to be able to help the people suffering after the hurricanes we have experienced, as well as every other worthwhile purpose I could find. That would be a blessing.

    Happy birthday!

  10. Happy Birthday. Thank you for the gifts. Love the colors in the flowers. Love all your books and can’t wait to read this one.

  11. Happy birthday, Shanna! Thank you for the gifts 🙂 I would like to be Princess for the day, just being pampered or maybe the chef, I love cooking and baking. Today is also 2 of my nieces birthday as well!

    • Happy birthday to your nieces! Hope they have a beautiful day. A princess or a chef would both be so fun! Although the princess might be more relaxing! Thanks for the birthday wishes. Have a beautiful day!

  12. I would choose princess. I think it would be interesting to do a day in the life, but not a long term thing.

  13. I might start with tour guide, but there are others I would definitely like to give a try, rancher & counselor.

  14. If I was younger and had the ability, I would be a ballerina. Happy birthday to you. I hope you had a fantastic day!

  15. Hi Shanna, I was wanting to order the books the friendly beasts of Faraday in a set for Christmas
All I see on line is to buy them individually. Are they offered as a set somewhere? Thanks Cindy Smith. I read them every Christmas season
