Writers are a quirky bunch. We talk to imaginary people, dream up ways to torture characters we claim to love, and have been known on occasion to show up to work in our pajamas. We all have different ways of getting into the writing zone, too. Some create playlists for each book they write to set the mood. Others load up on coffee and dark chocolate. Me? I put on bookish socks.
Fun socks make me happy and put me in a positive frame of mind as I sit down to write, and over the years I’ve amassed a pretty good collection of book-themed footwear.
Books and tea are always a favorite of mine. And I adore the cute little bookworms!
Jane Austen even makes an occasional appearance.
I thought I would personally foot-model my cowboy socks for you. (You’re welcome for not blinding you with the white legs above the sock line. Thank goodness for crop capability!)
I even have a pair of knee-highs, but I don’t wear these very often for writing sessions. Unless it’s really cold in my office.
Do you have any favorite “fun” socks you like to wear?

I have some wild Ruffles Flaming Hot knee socks that my son won in a contest. The colors are like the bag and are bright orange, trimmed with blue with the logo all over them. Crazy socks! He about dies when I wear them. Actually I have several pairs of wild socks! xD
How fun! Nothing better than getting to embarrass your kids. Ha!
I do have some fun socks, but regrettably, none with books. I have a purple pair with black and purple umbrellas and a black pair with orange mushrooms, to name two. I didn’t choose them for what’s on them but for their colors and the fact they were on sale. LOL
I love the color purple, and those umbrella socks sound fabulous. I have other crazy socks that aren’t book related, too. I have some fun hippopotamus socks (about 3 pair), one bright blue with Oreos, some with tea bags, tree frogs, even some Star Wars. 🙂
No crazy socks for me, though at Christmas time I do like the aloe infused socks. A few years ago my daughter had a picture of our family put on socks for her dad. He wears them proudly.
How fun to have a family photo on socks. I might have to remember that for my husband one year. He enjoys fun socks as well, and they make great stocking stuffers. 🙂
Just plain white one’s here.
Nothing wrong with the classics!
not a big sock person, my feet sweat heavily (like my Dad) so am thankful when it warms up enough for flip flop weather!
I’m exactly the opposite, Teresa. My feet are always cold. My husband loves to walk around the house barefoot, even in winter. His favorite thing to do when he gets home from work is to “free the toes!” Ha!
I don’t wear crazy socks. I have 1 pair of socks that has stars on them, that’s as “crazy’ as I get.
Stars are fun, Karijean. 🙂
I have the knee high book socks too. I think my favorite ones to wear are a gray pair of socks with music instruments on them
I love music, Kerah! I might need to branch out into musical socks. Great idea!
I wear crazy socks (Harry Potter, Christmas, baby animals, etc.) when I have to do something particularly stressful at work. I put on my big girl black jacket, a blouse, and slacks… and crazy socks. My team knows it’s an investigation day when I’m dressed nicer and put makeup on, but only once has anyone commented on the crazy socks and I think they just thought it was a one-time thoughtless thing.
I love that your use crazy socks as a way to destress, Kristen. Brilliant!
Thanks. : )
Howdy Karen! Socks? In Florida??? LOL I do have some short ones to walk in. Nothing as exciting as yours though! LOL They are cute!
Thanks, Tracy. If there is air conditioning on, I’m wearing socks. Ha! I do wear sandals out and about, but when I come home, I want shoes off and socks on. 🙂
I have some with dragons on them
Ooo – dragons sound epic!
I, too, have book socks. Plus, Jane Austen socks.
Yay! Super fun, Denise. 🙂
Just plain white socks for me, though I do have some cute slipper socks.
I love slipper socks! So cozy. Curling up with a good book almost always includes slipper socks. 🙂
oh but these are so fun. thanks for sharing. I have a number of socks with cute animals. And some I love with birds/butterflies and flowers. quilting dash lady at comcast dot net
Very fun, Lori! I have some tree frogs and hippos in the animal arena. 🙂
I have a drawer full of funky socks! Stripes, plaid, snowmen, snowflakes, pickles (my nickname is Pickle), pencils, ladybugs, frogs, flowers, balloons, buttons & bows, etc… knee-highs & ankle socks! I used to wear them a lot, but they hurt my legs nowadays & I have really hot feet. I even had a funky-sock-themed party once upon a time!
I passed my love of funky socks on to both my kiddos, & our son wore socks with a bride & groom in a sports car on them at his wedding. 😀
A funky sock-themed party??? That sounds awesome, Lori! My son, his groomsmen, and both dads wore Start Wars themed socks for his wedding. Love that your son got in on the fun too!
I have quite a few bookish socks, and I ordered two different kinds of Dickie socks from Amazon last year, because they had them in the right size for me!! If I go to the store to buy them, they’re always big.
Nice! We obviously need to have a book sock reading party. 🙂
I have a pair with butterflies on them. They are knee-highs and I wear them most days inside because my husband is always hot. In the house this is both summer and winter! Love your socks, especially the ones that are knee-high.
I love butterflies! Those sound super cute.
Hi, yes I do, I like wearing my socks that have dogs or the ones that have flowers on them I like them because I love dogs and I love flowers. Have a great evening and a great week.
Sounds perfect, Alicia!
I don’t have many patterned socks. Of the ones I do have, my favorites are a pair of llama socks (thank you, Pam Crooks) and a pair from Alaska.
Llama socks sound so fun, Patricia!
