I was reminded by an alarm on my phone that today was my day to post and … with all the bookish and Christmas things going on, (I literally just got home an hour ago from one of my son’s two Christmas concerts) I am plum out of blog ideas.
So, what does one do when one is out of ideas? Let’s play a game instead.
So, I’ll ask four questions and you can leave answers in the comments. I’ll choose one winner and send a signed book their way. Winner announced tomorrow evening.
- How far have you gone to do a Christmas event?
- For me, 9 hours of driving
- Have you ever participated in a Christmas event or custom others might think was strange?
- I haven’t personally, unless you count exchanging white elephant gifts with my husband’s family (I had never heard of white elephant before then)
- Do you prefer single color lights or multicolored Christmas lights?
- Depends on my mood. Praise God I have a tree I can change as my mood does.
- Have you ever been caroling?
- I have! I love it, especially the hot chocolate afterwards (I live in Minnesota, hot chocolate is a staple).
I hope you enjoy this little game. I’ll choose a random winner from those who comment.
Where western meets happily ever after.
Kari writes swoony heroes and places that become characters with detail and heart.
Her favorite place to write about is the place her heart lives, (even if she doesn't) South Dakota.
Kari loves reading, listening to contemporary Christian music, singing when no one's listening, and curling up near the wood stove when winter hits. She makes her home in central Minnesota, land of frigid toes and mosquitoes the size of compact cars, with her husband of over twenty years. They have two daughters, two sons, one cat, and one hungry wood stove.
Probably around 5 miles back when my kids were in school.
I’ve never been involved with a strange Christmas event other than participating in the elementary school Christmas play (mandatory).
I prefer multicolor lights…currently we have alternating red and green Christmas lights on the outside of our house and multicolor lights on our main tree.
Yes, I have been caroling with friends or a church group. I’m not a great singer so I will pass nowadays.
Debbie
Fun, thank you!
No
No
I love both, it just depends on the theme of the tree
Yes, about a hundred years ago when I was in high school!
It feels like I was in school about a hundred years ago too.
No, No, Multicolored lights and No never went caroling.
Thank you for entering 🙂
About 4 hours
I haven’t
I like both
Yes. I love it!
I love it too, thank you.
When we lived in West Virginia when I was a little girl, we’d drive to Missouri for Christmas get-togethers with my mom’s family. So back in the day before higher speed limits & with fewer interstates, around 19 hours driving-time.
I can’t think of anything too strange right now.
Mostly multi-colored lights, but I find that as I get older, the white draw me in a little bit more than they used to. Maybe I’m kinda like you… depends on my mood.
Yes, many times!! I remember as a little girl in West Virginia, walking (sliding on the ice) down the middle of the road, going from house to house, singing carols. It was a very small community/town, so not much traffic. I live in Missouri now, & our church goes caroling every year. And yes, always snacks & hot chocolate afterwards! Health problems have kept me from going with my family/friends for several years now, but I’ve got many fond memories!
I’m so glad you got to go. I kind of wish people still did it more. My daughter will be going with our church, but I’m too old to join in the fun, lol. Thank you for entering.
‘Tis the season to be busy. Fa la la la la la la la la.
1. I’d say about 30 minutes.
2. Not to my knowledge
3. I prefer white lights on my tree.
4. Yes. It was fun!
Thanks for the chance to win a prize. Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to you, too! Thank you for entering.
Yes, 12 hours. We lived in North Carolina and drove to Pennsylvania every Christmas.
I can’t recall doing anything.
I love colored lights.
And yes I have gone caroling. So much fun.
Merry Christmas!
I’m amazed at you and Lori in her comment above. Anything over 10 hours is so much time in the car (for me). Thank you for entering.
About 30 miles. 2. White elephant exchange at a Christmas party. 3. Usually multi-colored lights. 4. It’s been years, but yes I’ve been caroling.
Awesome, thank you for entering.
Good morning Kari!
Every year we travel to my brother’s house and it’s about an hour drive.
I’ve played Chinese swap, white elephant, and have done the ugly sweater deal!
I have done both lights. My grandson loves colored lights so for the last few years we do colored.
It’s been years ago, but I have done caroling.
Good morning! I had to look up what a Chinese swap was. Apparently, it’s also called a Yankee swap. Who knew?? Thank you for entering.
1 About 6 hrs driving time.
2 Re-enacting a 1791 frontier Christmas for many, many years.
3 I like them both!
4 Yes! I wish I could do it more often.
Happy Christmas!
Oh, reenacting a historical Christmas would be fun! Thank you.
24 hours of driving from New Mexico to North Carolina.
In the Philippines, I had a progressive Christmas dinner, where different courses were served at different homes. It was a little different but a lot of fun too.
I like all colors of lights, but I still think the all-white lights give a special effect, and I like them a little better.
I have been caroling but not often.
24 hours?? Gracious, I don’t know if I could do that. The church I was in for grades 10-12 offered a Christmas progressive dinner. My parents didn’t participate because we lived so rurally and it would’ve ruined the flow, but they sound really fun.
How fun, Kari! My daughter-in-law put up some of those color-changing lights that she runs through an app in her phone. Such fun variety!
Hey everyone,
If you’re having trouble commenting, make sure you’re logged in. The Fillies and I tested the commenting issue this morning and found that we could only comment if we are logged in. So, try that if you’re having an issue commenting. Thank you, and we’re so sorry about this.
Not too far from home
No unless it was a game with Girl Scouts
Colored lights
Yes with church and Girl and Boy scouts
Fun, thank you for entering!
New Jersey to Brooklyn, New York about 4 hours with traffic.
I think dirty santa is dumb and strange. Would rather just give someone a gift.
Thats a hard one, both always look beautiful.
No, I can’t carry a tune. No one would want me caroling along with them.
I’ve never heard of dirty santa and I’m pretty sure I don’t want to google that LOL. Thank you for entering.
1, About 8-9 hours drive. 2. None I can think of. 3. colored lights 4. Yes, I have.
I traveled about two hours. I can’t think of anything. I really like colored lights the best. I have never been caroling.
We live about two hours from family so that is our commute time to events. Glad to be close enough to see them frequently.
There’s a street near us that goes all out with outside Christmas decorations on their houses. We went to see it last year since my brother and his family were visiting us then.
A neighbor invited us to a Christmas party several years ago. That was the first time I heard about this white elephant gift exchange.
I like both kinds of lights.
I have never been caroling.
I went only a few hours to one
We do Santa gifts after dinner. They are fun, gag gifts given “anonymously”
I like colored most of the time but sometimes white lights are so stunning.
I have been caroling and loved it.
Usually, I only have to travel across town (a matter of minutes) to attend a Christmas event, but I’ve gone to visit family in a different state a couple of times (around a 6 hour drive).
We’ve occasionally created and hit a piñata for the kids for part of their Christmas fun, and we always make a treasure hunt for one of the nicer gifts that we give our kids to make the gifting last a bit longer!
I prefer white lights (they remind me of the stars), but I have seen some gorgeous colored light displays.
Yes! I go caroling every year! Im a musician, and it’s one of the highlights of the season!
Test 2
Usually just in the area where I live. 2. I was introduced to Dirty Santa as a gift exchange. 3. I prefer single color lights. 4. Yes, it has been years. Merry Christmas. God bless you.
We have only driven 3 hours for a event
I was in a outdoor live navitity scene & it was a really COLD night
We prefer multi-colored lights
I went caroling when I was younger & could carry a tune. We went house to house, hospitals & nursing homes
My first comment didn’t go through 🙁
Hi!
1. About 30 minutes away
2. None that I can think of
3.multicolored or the blue ones
4. No, but it looks fun!
For several years we drove three hours to a mountain cabin owned by a member of our church. I was youth group advisor and we took 10 to 15 teenagers for our annual Christmas Tree Retreat. We would cut a tree for the church and for several of the families participating…..lots of fun in the snow trying to find “ the tree” …..in the Wenatchee National Forest. There was Bible study and lots of singing in the evening.
No strange events
I prefer multicolor lights but I do like to see houses with a single color
I love caroling although I haven’t been in recent years.
It will be 6 hours. We are going to our granddaughter’s Christmas concert at her school next week.
Where I once lived, they make paper lanterns in various shapes, lots of stars, and paraded through town at night with the lit lanterns. A lovely tradition.
For outside lights and the lights on the big tree, I prefer white lights. We sometimes put up a four foot tree and use colored lights on it.
Our high school choir went caroling one year. We went to the hospital and the jail. Oddly the jail was the. sadder place to be. We have caroled around the neighborhoods where we have lived a few times over the years.
I hope you have a wonderful and less busy holiday season.
2 hours
no
multicolored
no
30minutes to 1 hour
Not really, just the white elephant one year with my youth years ago but I got lucky and got a tin gift with mini Hershey candy bars in it.
I like both and on our tree we can have whichever we want.
I believe I went caroling once or twice with my youth group way back in the day.
How far have you gone to do a Christmas event?
an hour and a half–office party
Have you ever participated in a Christmas event or custom others might think was strange?
just white elephant and the plastic wrap ball game with oven mitts
Do you prefer single color lights or multicolored Christmas lights?
I like multi color but for special things plain white is good
Have you ever been caroling?
yes, a long time ago but I don’t like to be cold so I don’t go anymore
a few miles
just white elephant once
love multicolor lights!
once for a school event
Not very far all my family comes home for the holidays and I like Both of the lights and No I have never been
I have gone for a Christmas event is Maine
which is about a 4 hr. Drive from Connecticut. I have gone Christmas caroling, not a good singer but who cares it’s fun. Love both lights and I use them both in decorating the inside and outside. Last question no.
