It’s finally here! After a year of googling Women’s Suffrage and all related topics to bring Forged in Love to life!!! It hits the shelves next week!!!
My tough wild west blacksmith begins banging iron and falling in love on February 28th
She’s against type more than most any other character I’ve created, second in line, that comes to mind is a western painter from Wrangler in Petticoats. A guy painting in the old west, now that was a weird one.
I’m doing a giveaway. Leave a comment about how it suits you to read about characters are out of the ordinary.
Do you like damsels in distress…although honest, Mariah’s in danger so in a sense, tough as she is, she’s in some distress.
Do you like heroes that protect a weaker woman?
What are your favorite kind of heroes and heroines?
I’ll draw a name from the comments to win a copy of Forged in Love

  1. the cover is so stunning, and the storyline too! Can’t wait for this book. It’s also coming out on my birthday, so naturally, I have to read it haha. So excited for the release. Congratulations on a new series. To answer your question, I love soft heroes and tough heroines. I think that makes for such a beautiful story.

  2. I like main characters who are intelligent and capable but who are also kind and relate well to others.

  3. I like heroes that protect underdogs, the less valued, the unwanted regardless of how it looks to other people.

    • And her memories of her father are very complicated. A hard, huge, strong man who let her learn blacksmithing mainly because she was quite young and probably shouldn’t be home alone. He doesn’t really approve of letting her blacksmith. But he loves her and just wasn’t sure what to do. So here she is, alone, with this skill that isn’t quite right, but badly needed in her small frontier town…..

  4. I also like a hero that is willing to step in and help a woman, even if she is strong and independent. Love your books. Can’t wait to read this one.

    • Aw, that is Clint right there. He doesn’t think she should b alone…danger!!! So he lets her teach him the most basic blacksmithing. And he’s got a TON of work to do for his diner….he’s a homestead and needs to pick his garden and make cheese, and harvest his eggs and milk and occasionally a chicken for the diner! So he’s doing it all late at night and early in the morning, pretty much working himself to death quietly so he can watch over her.

  5. So excited for your new book! I think I like reading about characters where the main character woman needs some help, but she is still a little spunky and funny, but also doesn’t mind being saved. And I like when the other main character to be strong and protective for possessive, but in a good way.

    • This is a perfect way to describe my hero, Clint Roberts. He has been trying to work up the nerve to ask Mariah out for about two years. And now he’s standing between her and a group of killers!

  6. I love the women characters in your books. Many of them have unusual circumstances that shaped who they are. I love women who can hold their own yet be willing to fall in love. My favorite character in your books is Belle Tanner.

  7. My grandpa was a blacksmith in Battle Lake, Minnesota. As a child, I remember his blacksmith shop and the heat from the forge along with all the equipment he used to work. He built a tractor from scrap metal and 60 years later, that little bug tractor still runs! So this story has caught my eye for sure. I love damsels in distress being rescued. I also like strong women in stories. But whatever you write, Mary, is a sure read on my part. Congratulations on the release of this book.

    • Kathy about FIVE things in this comment are so interesting. He built a tractor? Wow. And you still have it? And it runs? And I go to Battle Lake Minnesota fishing every year since I’ve gotten married. My husband has been going since he was about six. My father in law did blacksmith work, but years before I knew him, and he did it in addition to farming. And he died in 2002 so no one to talk to there,

  8. Welcome today. Oh but I love this cover. I love your story telling. Thanks for sharing your God given passion with all of us out here. I like both strong hero’s and heroines. I find it especially fun when they both are strong characters. quilting dash lady at comcast dot net

  9. I like hero’s that are caring, compassionate, and protective even over strong women. The women need to be strong emotionally and love unconditionally.

  10. I like a strong hero protector and a strong heroine. The give and take can produce an interesting story.

  11. I like heroines who can be strong in their own right, not having to wait on a man to do things for them, or even think they need a man to make them “complete” since we need to find our identity in Christ.

  12. I like reading heroes and heroines that are a little different. It’s fun to see them have jobs that we wouldn’t necessarily think of for that time period.

  13. It is hard to say categorically what type of hero or heroine I prefer, as it all depends on the specific location, era, community and family dynamics, etc. Your books have interesting and sometimes rather unique characters that relate well to the developing story lines.

  14. I love when the female heroine is independent although it’s sometimes to her comedic detriment. But I also love when the hero can see that while she’s independent, she still needs someone to come along side her and help her.

  15. I love women that are independent that can take care of their self but I like the hero to be able to take care of the women if she needs it. Sometimes things are bigger then we can take care of so it helps if the man can come in and take over.

  16. My favorite kind of heroes/heroines would men and women who do not feel they have to claim the prize in their fight for supremacy. It doesn’t mean they immediately fall in love, but on the other hand, they do not act dumb to each other’s good or bad traits. A conflicting couple doesn’t hold my interest for long.

  17. I love to read about characters who are out of the ordinary! Damsel’s in distress and heroes who save them are fine, but I like it flipped too!
I like when both characters are mature–not overreacting to petty things. I like when they act more as equal partners, friends who look out for each other. And not bickering all the time! My least favorite trope is probably “enemies to lovers” because they fight the whole book!

  18. A damsel in distress or dnger through no fault of her own gives a good guy the chance to step in to help her out. Even men get into trouble at times and a woman can be quite capable of helping them out. I do like strong heroines but even strong people need help sometimes.
As for characters who are out of the ordinary, bring them on. There are many people out there who follow their own path despite what society thinks. It isn’t always easy and their story deserves to be told. Actually, they make for good story possibilities.

  19. The cover is GORGEOUS & I’m looking forward to reading about 2 main characters doing jobs against stereotypes. I remember Wrangler in Petticoats & that story was indeed memorable. A male painter in the Rockies & a female horsewoman leading a group of men. One of Sophie’s daughters, I’ll never forget it.

  20. I love strong, tough heroes with gooey sweet insides along with feisty, capable heroines but who are still kind to everyone

  21. I like heroes with a good sense of humor. I also like them to be chivalrous. I don’t mind if they are the quiet type but

  22. I love string female characters, but I also love when a strong man steps in and fights alongside them. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!

  23. I always think of THE EVIL OVERLORD’S LIST when a couple start out hostle towards each other:

Evil Overlord’s List 98. If an attractive young couple enters my realm, I will carefully monitor their activities. If I find they are happy and affectionate, I will ignore them. However if circumstance have forced them together against their will and they spend all their time bickering and criticizing each other except during the intermittent occasions when they are saving each others’ lives at which point there are hints of sexual tension, I will immediately order their execution.

I always get an extra chuckle when one of the things on the list appears. It takes nothing from the story.
