It has been a hard year for all of us, and this holiday season will be like no other. Restrictions may mean fewer people at your Thanksgiving table, and fewer hugs all around, but this day can still be special. That’s because restrictions can only go so far. No one can restrict our ability to spread love, laughter, and kindness. No restriction can limit how much faith, hope, and gratitude fills our hearts. Nor can any restriction stop our ability to create new traditions and make new memories.

Thanks to the miracle of technology, restrictions also can’t keep us from reaching out to each other and, for that, I’m especially grateful.   1. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. This year it will be just hubby and I. I will miss going to mom’s or having my children come to my house. I’m really missing everyone. Thank you for spending time with us all.

    The decorating at the hospital I usually do on Black Friday happened last week. We did it early at the hospital’s request because they knew restrictions would be going in place. So, I’ll be shopping from home on Black Friday.

  3. We’re not gathering at my parent’s house for Thanksgiving. We have a Zoom call scheduled and I think we’re going to attempt our usually family game day during that call. In our household, we’re still making all the normal dishes. I don’t do Black Friday, more a Cyber Monday girl, so no difference for me there… in fact, I’m already about 95% done with my shopping.

  4. There will be three of us at our house instead of driving one and a half hours to our daughter’s house where we normally have 11 to 15 of us. We will have a virtual get together and are planning to judge our “pie fest” by site only this year. Don’t know how that will work but we will have fun.

  5. Happy Thanksgiving!!! I won’t have the traditional meal and I’ll be alone, but i have found a meal I can make that smells just like Thanksgving dinner and I can have items that were favorites when i was younger. 🙂

  6. This year, my husband and I will celebrate Thanksgiving Day with just the two of us for the first time in years. However, on Saturday we will go to my daughter’s for a small get-together. Hey, I get to celebrate twice and eat two dinners. : )

  9. Happy Thanksgiving! Although my son won’t be able to make it home this year, my husband and I will scale down the dinner with all our favorites. We will then take a “turkey trot” around the neighborhood to burn off the calories. I wish everyone peace, hope, and love.

  10. Happy Thanksgiving. We will spend it at my sister in laws, it will be a small crowd, but festive and exciting just the same.

  12. Our celebration began at 5:30 this morning when my three year old grand daughter wished me Happy Thanksgiving. There will be ten for dinner, so unlike other years. I have my Thanksgiving gift bags ready with Christmas pajamas for the grandkids, an advent calendar with chocolates, and a snuggle pillow. Tradition remains the same menu for dinner. Although this year I made raspberry cream cheese pie along with French silk pie. We always share our gratitude for this season of Thanksgiving around the table.   13. Happy Thanksgiving! My husband and I decided not to join our families this year. it will be just the two of us. We are not sticking to a traditional Thanksgiving meal. We decided to grill steaks instead. Steak, baked tators and ranch style beans. It’s a Texas style Thanksgiving for us.

  14. Happy thanksgiving to you all! We have only a few showing up this year. It will be a small gathering versus the big we usually have. I am actually ok with this because it will be a very relaxing day for once! More time to spend with my own family.

This year our Thanksgiving will be smaller just because some are not comfortable celebrating and some are in areas where they have been in contact with someone with covid. we will still have turkey and such. Before dinner we always pray in a circle.     For us, though all my family is here, we are not gathering at my house. Boo-hoo! But we are having a traveling dinner where our four daughters make their favorite/usual dishes and we will portion out for all of us to reheat later.

    To steal from Julie, we are going to do our family “Turkey Trot” at a nearby park, then distribute our food to each other, then head home to eat with just immediate family. The grandkids will do their usual “I’m thankful for…” recitations, though, as I am firm on keeping as many of our family traditions going.

  17. We are staying home instead of traveling to my in-laws for a big family gathering. This year there will only be 5 of us gathering, and I am doing all the cooking. It will still be nice, though, because we have much to be thankful for.

  18. Happy Thanksgiving! We are going to my son & daughter in-law’s house to eat so there will only be 6 of us including kids! We will play with the grandkids & be outside some! Normally the whole family gathers at my brother-in-law’s house! After lunch we would all go to a movie! Usually around 25 of us! Oh well, maybe next year! 🙂

  19. Good morning and Happy Thanksgiving! Thank you so much for the two short Christmas reads! I needed some short reads to help me make my Goodreads reading goal this year. Having my daughter how 98% of the entire year slowed my reading considerably. Not to mention I became a Pampered Chef Consultant and I hadnt done anything on a computer for the past 15 years other than Facebook, other apps and Googling so it has been quite a challenge. I lost my mother, her sister, a niece was diagnosed in February with cancer and died October 2, we lost a dear friend, Glenda Kenard and several other friends.I also found out that I had a brother, from my Daddy doing one of those DNA ancestry tests, but when we tracked him down we found out he had passed away from a sudden illness that hadn’t been diagnosed in yet. He passed away in November. My father was devastated that he had a son he had never met and that he had passed away. That makes 3 sons for my father and they’ve all passed away now. His son, my half brother would have been a year-ksh older than me. I’m one of 6, 4 girls and 2 boys, I have one step-sister and had one half-brother. There are now 5 girls left. Tie that all that up with a Covid bow and the has been a terrible year.

    We ended up canceling our normal holiday plans to spend with my family at father and step-mothers’ and it will be my 2 daughters and my oldests boyfriend. We aren’t going the Thanksgiving route. We decided to make tamales today. We are having pumpkin pie though. Lol

  20. Our Thanksgiving will be spent at home with our daughter and 6 year old granddaughter. The last few years our church family has offered a Community Thanksgiving meal for our community and we were involved in that but this year, one young couple who have a catering company will be doing the meal and offering it as a drive-through meal. I applaud them for continuing this tradition and hopefully, next year, we will be able to help them. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

  22. My husbands family and my family are both nearby. We were going to do lunch with one and dinner with the other, but there was just a big power outage this morning in our town! So his brother just decided to cancel lunch. Hopefully the power will come back on and we can still do dinner with my family.

    • Hi Patty, do you live in California? I got a notice that they were turning off the power today because of the winds. That meant changing my dinner plans. What a pain. Here’s hoping your power comes back on in time for dinner.

  23. We’re still going to get together with family, just not with so many! There will be 12 or 13 of us, instead of 20 or more. Mom and I also don’t have to make the sweet potato casserole we usually do, we’re supplying the drinks!!

  24. My daughter is in the middle of building a house. So she isn’t cooking. I’m going to my grand daughter’s to eat dinner. This year has been full of crazy changes. Be so glad for 2021..

  27. My you and your family have a Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving. Our Thanksgiving this year will be pretty much of what it usually is, my husband and I will be having Thanksgiving dinner with our daughter, son in law , our 14 yr. old grandaughter and our 12 yr old grandson who live about 3 blocks away from us, we usually have Thanksgiving at their house and then for Christmas we usually have Christmas dinner at our house. Our son and his little family will not be coming this year, they live 6 hrs from us, we will be calling them though. It has been a very different year, but I am very Thankful for our good health. This year more than ever, I have really been reminded of something that i have always known but sometimes not go along with it and it is to Not take Anyone or Anything for Granted, it has really been reinforced for me. May the New Year be a much better year for all of us. God Bless you all.

    Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. We are doing something we have never done before for Thanksgiving. We have a large family because my husband and I have children spread over many states. One son lives with us now to care for my husband and me and this year with Covis it will only was the three of us. We cut down on our regular Thanksgiving feast and just had a delicious dinner. My son cooks for us and because he cooked his way through college, we had a fantastic dinner. All of the others have just sent us pictures of their family dinners and all sent us a message round robin so we were included in all of their family dinners through a picture round robin. We had a blessed Thanksgiving though quiet.

  33. My Thanksgiving will be different this year! My hubby and I will be apart! I decided to drive to my parents in another state and spend the holiday with them. They are elderly and my mom has been having some health problems so I am helping them out with some things for a few days. My hubby needed to stay home for work. We couldn’t do all the cooking stuff either so my dad ordered us individual dinners from the local market but they were actually very good! We just finished eating them. I talked to my hubby on the phone just now so I’m thankful for technology. Your books look great, by the way!

  35. We had planned on having Thanksgiving dinner today. My Mom was taken to the hospital yesterday afternoon. She was admitted with large kidney stones as well as has developed an infection called sepsis. Everything has been put on hold. My Dad took the turkey to his apartment to freeze it for us. We will have our dinner at another time I am grateful that she is stabilized. I was able to talk to her for a short time tonight. She has a long way to go. She is where she needs to be right now.
