Warning! Tim McGraw will make you cry.

For those of you who lived through the Vietnam War, you’ll remember the violence and discontent from our country’s involvement.  As crazy as it sounds, many Americans blamed our soldiers for being there, and their suffering and the terrible things they witnessed made no difference to those back home.  The soldiers were shunned and rebuked upon their return to US soil.  They were made to be the enemy when they were, in truth, fighting to help keep us all free, something everyone should have appreciated more than they did.

Nowadays, thankfully, the tide has turned, and the men and women in our military are honored and revered, as they should be.  Patriotism is surging.  The flag once again flies with respect.  Who can keep a dry eye while watching a news clip of a soldier dad returning home to surprise his child?

One of the ways to show our patriotism is through songs and videos.  Yesterday, my sister-filly, Cheryl Pierson, wrote an excellent blog with many examples of patriotic songs, and our readers loved chiming in.

Funny how great minds think alike.

  1. Pam- Yes that’s a very touching song, hard not to tear up listening. I’m so proud of all our men and women who serve this beautiful country and give their all and some, their lives to keep us free. God Bless The USA and our soldiers.

  3. I haven’t heard this song before. Tissues definitely needed. We owe so much to our soldiers & the freedom they fight for.What happened to the soldiers who came home from Viet Nam was a disgrace. May we always respect these men & women who serve our country.

  11. Pam, I’m so glad you shared this. I love this song, and I certainly remember those Vietnam War days and the way our country treated the soldiers. Very sad. My husband is a Vietnam vet, and he still talks about it. It still hurts after all these years! The tide has turned now, thank goodness, but so many Vietnam vets still bear the scars of not only the war, but the way they were treated. This is a great song–love it, and so glad you featured it today!

  13. Pam, I love this and I love Tim McGraw. Of country singers he’s at the top of my list with George Strait. The Vietnam War was such a sad time. I remember going to the funeral when I was in high school for a friend who’d been a grade ahead of me. I bawled my eyes out. That was my first experience dealing with war.

    • That was a lot for you to have to endure, Linda. Both of you were so young. But war knows no boundaries and plays no favorites. Age doesn’t matter. And you still remember it to this day.

  14. I KNEW everyone would be affected by that song like I was! Sure makes you stop and think what others have lost and how their pain must have felt. We are blessed to live in a strong country with a military devoted to protect us.
