Holiday Greetings From Linda Broday

Me at XmasHAPPY HOLIDAYS!!

Holidays are a special time to be with families and I hope you were and are with yours.
I pray that Santa was extra good to you this year. I dug out a picture of me  that was taken around 1954. I was all set that Christmas. I got a new baby doll, a phone, some new house shoes and probably the clothes I’m wearing. I remember how much I loved Santa’s visit to our house. My expectations were pretty modest because even then I knew how poor we were. In addition to a few gifts, I always got an apple, an orange and if I was real lucky a few pieces of candy in my stocking.
But it was enough, you know. I felt loved and safe and warm. Those are priceless.
Thank you all for sticking with us here. You add so much to my and my Filly sister’s lives. We’re immensely grateful for your support.

So a belated Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!!

  1. Adorable picture, Linda! It’s funny how as I’ve gotten older, I don’t remember the presents so much as being with family and the memories of love and laughter.

  2. Good Morning, Kirsten! I’m glad you liked the picture. It’s the only one I have of me at Christmas when I was a kid. I’m thinking that maybe my mama got a new camera that year and wanted to try it out. And, I don’t know where my little sister was. Strange. Yes, the memories of family and home and feeling loved have stayed with me all this time. I remember the warmth and safety I felt.

Wishing you a Happy New Year!

  3. Good Morning, Janine! I hope you’re staying warm today. It’s frigid here so I’m huddling beneath a blanket and thinking of something good to cook. Cold weather always makes me want to cook for some reason. I think it’s the good smells that drift through the house that gives me a greater sense of warmth.

Wishing you a very Happy New Year!

  4. Great holiday memories for you.. I had a lovely Christmas and it will be a quiet New Year…

Happy New Year and may it bring good health, happiness and financial peace.

    • Margaret, yeah, I always had skinned knees because my mama kept me in dresses. No pants or shorts for us girls. But she despaired of us ever learning to be ladies. We’d rather be climbing trees or riding bikes or building towns in the dirt. LOL

Wishing you a safe and Happy New Year!

    • Hi Colleen, thanks for coming by. Glad you enjoyed my picture. Sadly, it’s the only one I have of me at Christmas during my childhood.

Wishing a warm, safe, and very Happy New Year!!

    • Hi Catslady! Happy New Year to you! I hope you 2015 is wonderful to you. Thank you so much for supporting P&P and all the Fillies throughout the year. You’re the best.

  5. Love the picture! I,too, had very modest wants for my wish list at Christmas! But I love Christmas and always had enough!

    • Hi Connie! I’m so glad you enjoyed the picture. Sounds like we were both in the same poor boat. A lot of families were back in the 50s and 60s. It was enough just to be warm and fed.

Wishing you a wonderful and very Happy New Year!

  6. What a cute picture, Linda! My parents (especially my dad) was a photography nut and took pictures of everything so I have a lot of pictures at Christmas. He had an old super 8 movie camera we all had to tolerate with the blazing light bar at the top, stumbling out of bed and bleary eyed trying to look into the camera. LOL Those were the days.

We always got an orange, and apple, nuts and some candy kisses in our stockings. Somewhere, I think I still have my old stocking put away. I keep saying I’m going to tackle the attic “in the spring” but 3 years have gone by so far and I haven’t done it yet!

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas, and I’m definitely getting that new release of yours! It looks wonderful!

    XOXOXO
    Cheryl

  7. I was the oldest of 6 siblings and we were comfortable, but not well off. With that many children, even one or two small gifts per person made for a crowded space under the tree. We were happy and thankful for what we got. We appreciated what we got. Kids today get so much it all sort of gets lost in the pile. As a grandmother, I am guilty of over piling the gifts, but find it hard not to.
Thanks to you all for an enjoyable year of posts. I look forward to what you will have in store for us in 2015.
