The Perfect Storm….or….I’m juggling as fast as I can

Mary Connealy Header

When I die….people are going to say….remember the month of October in 2014???? Well, if Mary could have skipped that month (well maybe half of September, too)….she’d have lived for ten more years.

Lots of great stuff happening and I’ll get to that, but also my mom fell and spent three weeks in the hospital, now she’s in a nursing home. Recovering and we hope to spring her soon but she’s 86 so it’s slow.

Also another family member with a health crisis I’m not going into here but trust me….tons of emotional energy and time….which I want utterly to give.

And in the midst of those things that I absolutely HAVE to make a priority………………………….

Which is fun and wonderful and I love doing all of it….but wow, the marketing, trying to keep straight all the promises I’ve made…..trying to remember which book I’m supposed to be talking about now. And, plus, also, too…..I’VE GOT A BOOK TO WRITE!

Great Grandma

Great Grandma-My mom with six of her seven great-grandchildren on Labor Day 2014

So this is me, whining and rejoicing in equal parts because c’mon … this writing gig is what I pursued for years. This is what I WANT. This is an achievement of which I am so proud and amazed and honored.

Mary and her Mom

My mom holding me when I was about six weeks old. Mom seems distracted, I may have been eating shrubbery.

If by any chance I have made any promises to anyone and haven’t kept them….please email me and remind me because many things have vanished into air pockets in my brain.

So Mom is healing. She’s an absolute doll. My main concern for her, beyond her health is she just does NOT ask for anything for herself.

So I feel like I need to be there, asking for her. I’m actually not real good at that myself. My Cowboy husband is great at it. So he gets a lot of me worrying and him taking charge for which I am so grateful.

I’ve also got seven brothers and sisters who, well, one is a doctor but in an odd twist they ALL seem to think they’re doctors. So lots of advice.

AND I didn’t even intend to talk that much about my mom, let alone post a bunch of pictures of her so I’ll stop now, what I intend to do is explain the juggling and give books away. One each of the four releases. And you know what? I’m giving away five. Because P & P filly Margaret Brownley is in one collection with me!

TRIED AND TRUE…we’ve talked about that a lot here (well, I CERTAINLY HAVE) Saddle up for a wildly fun ride with the Wilde sisters!

Kylie Wilde is the youngest sister–and the most civilized. Her older sisters might be happy dressing in trousers and posing as men, but Kylie has grown her hair long and wears skirts every chance she gets. It’s a risk–they are homesteading using the special exemptions they earned serving in the Civil War as “boys”–but Kylie plans to make the most of the years before she can sell her property and return to the luxuries of life back East.

Local land agent Aaron Masterson is fascinated with Kylie from the moment her long hair falls from her cap. But now that he knows her secret, can he in good conscience defraud the U.S. government? And when someone tries to force Kylie off her land, does he have any hope of convincing her that marrying him and settling on the frontier is the better option for her future?

“Another great laugh-out-loud historical romance with memorable characters who have charm, style, grace, and a bit of mischief.”

  1. My mom also has 7 great-grandchildren. We all got together to celebrate her 90th birthday last June.

My you have been busy. I would be honored to win one of your books!

  2. This blog isn’t about nothing. It’s about the important things like family and support.

I’m continuing to pray you and your family up!

    Peace, Julie

  3. Wow! What a month you have had! You will be ready for some snow and slower days of winter! Or does it work that way? It is supposed to, right? One can dream! Glad you mom is on the mend and pray it continues!

  4. I love your books! I have them in paperback as well as ebook! I just bought the ebooks again for iBooks ((I do not like the NOOK app) since they were on sale!
Thanks for the chance to win! If I don’t win, I will be buying them!
Have a blessed day and I will be praying for your mom and your family!

  5. Sophie’s Other Daughter? When-how-why haven’t I heard of this before? (The story, I mean – I do remember a somewhat prissy and exceedingly feminine baby sister).

My grandma (turning 96 next month) fell in August and cracked her hip, so it’s been a similar trial here . . . God bless steady recovery and absence of pain!

  6. Oh, Mary, I am praying for you, your mother, and your family. You have certainly been caught in a whirlwind! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and precious pictures, as well as these generous giveaways.

  7. WOW! I love your books and always come away feeling blessed and refreshed but as much as I love to read your books, I am praying that you keep your family first in these days of juggling. I am glad that you have a good strong cowboy at your side.
You are a blessing to so many. Know that you have many people praying for you.

  8. Wow that’s a lot of your work releasing all together! It’s perfect for your fans to get their fix 🙂 Thanks for the generous giveaways!!!

  9. Oh my goodness, take a deep breath and sit down for a minute. Wow, what a lot going on. I hope you get a much quieter November! I have already had the great pleasure of reading those two Christmas brides stories and I loved them!

  10. Congrats on all of your releases… oh boy, I hope things calm down for you… wishing the best for you and your family!

  11. I had five sisters and one brother. They may like to give orders but I am the second born so I don’t pay attention to them. We always have fun when we get together.

  12. It’s nice to see though that there is so much family love to go around and sometimes it’s what keeps spirits high and pain at bay. Prayers for your for healing and peace for your family. I know that I can speak for myself and your fans by saying we have all been blessed with your hard works in writing! love them!!

  13. Hi Mary! You are one busy lady! Do you ever stop to breathe? Congrats on your new releases and best wishes to your mother.

  14. those sound so good,,I love Christmas novels, they are my all time favorite,,don’t have a ereader though,,I only read books I can hold and turn the page,,hope everything gets better for you

  15. Blessings and prayers for you and your mother. My 87 yr old Mom went through something similar last summer and is doing great now. Hope your Mom does as well. You will get through this!

  16. Congrats on your new releases! I think its about time for you to relax some and take some time for yourself!

  17. Mary (which my dumb ipad autocorrected as Gnarly, go figure…) hugs and prayers for your mom. Thanks for all the great Christmas info…I can’t wait to cuddle up in front of the fire for these amazing reads. Xo

  18. LOL, Mary! Don’t forget to breathe! 😀

I enjoy all your stories. Gonna have to track some of these down if I don’t win any of them. 🙂

Hope things settle down for you soon.

  19. I hope your mom will be feeling better soon. I can sympathize. My mom fell May 29 (broke her leg between her replaced hip and replaced knee). Since she’s 83, it was a slow recovery. She was hospitalized till mid September. It’s still slow going for her but she’s doing better.
I think it will be fun to read about Sophie’s other daughter (and I assume Ike is Mark’s brother) and also the however many greats grandson of the Hardins in your ebooks. I love the way your books connect. Thanks for the chance to win one of your books.

  20. Mary, I always look forward to your posts! They make me laugh! You sure have a lot going on, girl!! I’m thinking you need to skip GO and go straight to Thanksgiving- you know…..RELAX!! Hope you get to catch your breath soon! I’d sure love to win these collections you’re talking about! They sound fantastic!

  21. Wow I thought October was crazy for me with 6 family birthday’s + wedding planning for my daughter – but I think you have me beat!

  22. Mary, what a time you have had! I am so sorry to hear of health issues your family members are suffering. I hope better days for both of them are soon. My daddy and your mother are the same age. My mother is 82. I wish life got easier the older we got but it doesn’t seem to be the case. Four books!!!! Wow!!!! You best take time every once in a while to catch your breath. Thank you for sharing your wonderful pictures and giveaways.

  23. Hi Mary! I so understand with your mom. I went through helping her through cancer a few years ago and just recently lost my dad from it too so as we take care of our parents we have to remember to take care of ourselves too so we can be as healthy as we can too. Know you’re in my thoughts and prayers.

It was exhausting reading all you’ve done… all that writing… which I love. So thank YOU for all you do. I saw some of your books on sale in ebooks which I love to read ebooks since I can make font big and easy to read.

Take care. Would love to win any in ebook for kindle format.

  24. Love all your books! They are the best ! My mom is also 86. Life becomes more challenging with the care of parents.

  25. Please throw my name in the hat. I love all you books, but I really loved Belle’s story. I’m glad you are revisiting her family.

  26. If your blog was about nothing, it was a lot of nothing. I do hope your mother improves rapidly and gets home for the holidays. I’m sure it would be hard for her to miss being with the family and you would all miss her too. Good luck with dealing with the other health issue. Remember to take care of yourself. Even if you want to give, you only have so much to give. You have many things pulling you in many directions and it can get overwhelming before you realize it. You will need your health to deal with it all.
I can’t imagine how you managed to accomplish all you have while dealing with these major family issues. I know these books will all be wonderful. You haven’t written anything that hasn’t been a delight to read. Christmas books are a favorite, The season infuses a special feeling to the stories. I am looking forward to reading the Wild At Heart series.

Take good care of yourself. Take a deep breath and try to relax and refresh a little.
