The Book is done!

I just wrote The End on my latest book, CLAIMING THE DOCTOR’S HEART.   That may not seem like a big deal to you.  After all, I’m a writer.  Finishing books is what I do.  This time, however, I cut it close, too close for comfort.  The manuscript is due on my editor’s desk today.  This is not the way I like to do things.  I’m a planner.  An organizer.  Someone who color coordinates her closet.  And puts all the cat toys in a nice, neat pile.  Stressed out doesn’t begin to describe my state of mind right now.

The good news?  I wrote THE END.  I made the deadline.  Whoop, whoop.  Cue the halleluiah chorus.  It’s time to celebrate.  My husband is always up for this part of the writing process.  Have I ever mentioned how much I love that man?

Now that I have a few free moments to myself, it’s time to catch up on all the things I let slide.  I plan to scale Mt. Laundry this afternoon, clean the bathrooms, organize my clothes by style and color.  I also plan to catch up with friends and family I’ve not spoken to in a few weeks.  On that note, I called my father this morning and told him the good news.  He asked me, “Does that mean you’re starting a new book today?”

My response?  Hahahahahahahahaha!  No, I will NOT be starting a new book today.  I’m taking the rest of the week off and indulging in some reading of my own.  My To Be Read (TBR) pile has gotten out of control.  In honor of all the enjoyment I plan to have, I thought I would share what I’ll be reading this week.

  1. Congrats on your finish. You really don’t want a list of my TBR pile. They range from Nora Roberts to Jonathan Kellerman and don’t forget every romance you can imagine. I get obsessed with an author then discovery another and the obsession never ends. I love your stories, I still have a few in my TBR pile.

    Have a Blessed Relaxed Day

  2. Congratulations on finishing your book. Getting it out on time is all that matters, even if it’s at the last minute. Enjoy the rest of your week off. I have so many books on my TBR list, I am confused where to start sometimes.

  3. Renee!!!! Happy Dancing For You!!!! Oh, I know that feeling . . . It’s all the sweeter when we cut things a bit too close (which sometimes just can’t be helped). Enjoy every breath you take today; celebrate the freedom and the joy of a job well done! Finishing a book is one of the best feelings in the world. Happy Laundry Day!

  4. Well, I am rereading parts of books I love, including yours, as I do the revisions on my manuscript. Does that count?

Know the rest of your summer is a busy one. Glad to hear you are going to take some sabbath time.

No need for the book. You know I have it and loved it.

    Peace, Julie

  5. YAY! Congrats!
The top of my TBR pile has:

JUST ONE KISS – Susan Mallery
HOW TO PURSUE A PRINCESS-Karen Hawkins
    What Happened In Scotland-Jennifer McQuiston
    THE SWEETEST THING -Jill Shalvis

  6. Hi Renee, I’ve been blessed with The Outlaw’s Redemption! I’m currently reading Hannah’s Beau, then Loving Bella, next The Lawman Claims His Bride and finally The Outlaw’s Redemption!

  7. Congratulations on finishing the book! Do you mean that you aren’t a deadline-is-looming-fast-so-now-I-REALLY-need-to-get-to-work type of person? I can be that way…

To be honest, I don’t think I’ve ever read any of your books. I tend to get mine used (at Goodwill or other thrift shops) or win them through Seekerville or blogs. Would love to win a copy of your book though! 🙂

My TBR pile is large, including a bunch of Love Inspireds, a Laurie Alice Eakes (“A Necessary Deception”), Julie Klassen’s “The Girl in the Gatehouse”, a Sigmund Brouwer book (can’t think of the title), among others. They’re all in our bedroom, in a smallish bookcase, along with some Christian non-fiction I want to read.

Have fun with your housework catch-up! I’m always playing catch-up and it isn’t because I’ve been writing recently either. 😉

    Blessings,
    Melanie

  8. My TBR mountain is so big I really don’t know where to start. I am looking forward to reading A BRIDE FOR ALL SEASONS with stories by Margaret Brownley and Mary Connealy and Haunted Warrior by Allie Mackay. Elizabeth Lane’s A LAWMAN’S VOW has been staring at me for a while along with THE LAWMAN CLAIMS HIS BRIDE by you and they both need to be read.
I have been reading all the BJ Daniels Harlequin Intrigues in the pile. Some have been there while. We just got back from Montana and it is nice to read books and recognize the area where it takes place.

Congratulations on finishing your book. I look forward to when it comes out.

  9. Sherry, it’s confession time. My TBR pile is very, VERY large. I just focused on the top three so I wouldn’t feel too awful. I always have a Nora Roberts book in my pile. She’s actually the only writer who writes faster than I can read. 😉

  10. Melanie, your reading taste runs similar to mine. Good luck with the catching up, too. I wish I could say I’ll be able to do so…but I’m flying out to NYC tomorrow. Then, it’s off to my daughter’s wedding two weeks later. See why meeting the deadline was so important? And why I’m frazzled? LOL

  11. Hi Patrcia B! I had a chance to meet BJ Daniels two weeks ago. What a lovely, lovely woman!!! Enjoy catching up on your reading. As far as I’m concerned, too many books is a GREAT problem to have. 😉

  12. Wow great job finishing your book! Its so great to have that sense of victory when you have worked so hard! I have TBR pile that I’m trying to build. Next Tuesday I will be finished with college and my 30 page paper I have been working for a year. I cant tell how excited I will be when I get to read something I want and not something a teacher is telling me to read 🙂 But some of the ones od my list are: Stealing the Preacher by Karen Witemeyer
Big Sky Summer by: Linda Lael Miller and Kansas Courtship by: Victoria Bylin. I hope to gather more cause will go through these fast! 🙂

  13. Congrats!

My TBR list is so long, but on the top of the list are:
Stealing the Preacher by Karen Witemeyer
A Noble Groom by Jody Hedlund
    Amish Faith by Sarah Price

  14. I recently read The Next Best Thing and Just one of the Guys both by Kristan Higgins. My TBR pile is so big!!

  15. Congrats on finishing your book.
Are you kidding? there are so many books in my TBR pile(s) I don’t know where to start. So I am going to tell you HOW I read books.
I start a romance book, a Western, a mystery and a thriller all at once and i read a couple of chapters in each per day. Long ago some of my co-workers scoffed when I told them my favorite kinds of books to read were romance ones. Got me to thinking that I should read some of the classics. So for every 10 books I read, I read a classic. I just finished reading East of Eden by John Steinbeck. I really enjoyed it.
My next classic is going to be On the Road by Kerouac. Last summer I read the Complete Works of Shakespeare. whew that was a task but I finally can say I have read all of his books. I have another big volume but can’t force myself to start a long one again soon. It is the Complete Works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
Anyway, I usually buy most of the new ones out each month so I have a lot of reading to do. Thank goodness I am a speed reader.
Take care and happy reading (and writing).

  16. Congrats on finishing your book! 🙂 Wow, my TBR pile has a nice variety waiting for me… I have Robin Perini’s newest book, some cowboys from different authors, An English Bride in Scotland by Lyndsay Sands, & Midnight’s Captive by Donna Grant. Happy Reading! 🙂

  17. Congrats on finishing your book on a job well done I am sure! I have a little of everything in my TBR pile. I have been reading some historical lately so I am going to make a switch to a Jill Shalvis book It Had to be You. I like to switch around some so I don’t get bored so I keep a little of everything on my TBR pile.

  18. Congratulations!! My tbr pile is mammoth lol. To name a few:

Megan Mulry – If the Shoe Fits
Carolyn Brown – One Hot Cowboy Wedding
Jill Shalvis – It had to be You
Eloisa James – As you Wish
Grace Burrowes – Lady Eves Indiscretion

  19. Just finished Smoke River Bride by Lynna Banning. I am going to start Ready to Die by Lisa Jackson and them Some Like it Hot by Susan Andersen.

  20. Congrats!!! I bet that feeling when typing “The End” is like nothing else. 🙂
My TBR pile is terribly big, but I feel I can make it thru! My current read is Talon by Ronie Kendig. I like action packed ones.

  21. Sadly The Outlaws Redemption is not in my TBR pile but I would like it to be. Is it ok to say that my TBR pile is so high I actually have 3 TBR piles? yikes I can’t read fast enough.I should have taken a Speed Reading class a long time ago. Wish I had. But I’m getting better, faster I should say. I love to read.

  22. Congratulations! Reaching the end of a book that has to be turned in is an awesome feeling. Really happy that you made your deadline. I love that title! I know it’ll be wonderful. Right now, I’m reading Outlaw Lawman by Delores Fossen. It’s so suspenseful. I’m loving it. Hope you enjoy those titles you’ve chosen to read. You never go wrong with Linda Lael Miller or Jo Goodman either.

  23. Yay for you! Sounds like a great feeling 🙂 Next on my list to read is Swept Away by Mary Connealy. I’d love to win your book!
