Some years ago I saw an article in a newspaper that caught my attention. I’m always finding something of interest so I scurry off to find the scissors to clip it. This one has lain in my desk drawer until I recently ran across it when I moved. It’s amazing what all I found during this move. And I discovered I’m a bit of pack rat. Not a good thing to be when you have limited space. But back to the article I found.
Did You Know………..
Roosters cannot crow if they cannot fully extend their necks.
A full grown bear can run as fast as a horse.
Reindeer milk has more fat than cow’s milk. I wonder if Santa knows this?
It takes forty minutes to hard boil an ostrich egg.
Chickens that lay brown eggs have red ear lobes.
It’s physically impossible for pigs to look up into the sky.
A group of owls is called a parliament.
Female swine will always have an even number of teats or nipples, usually twelve.
It is possible to lead a cow upstairs but not downstairs because their knees cannot bend properly in order to walk to back down. So if you take a cow upstairs you’ll just have to leave him there or lower the unfortunate animal with ropes. LOL I can sense a story in this.
A goat’s eyes have rectangular pupils.
Bees must collect the nectar from two thousand flowers in order to make one tablespoon of honey.
A donkey will sink in quicksand but a mule won’t. I don’t know why.
There were tons of other examples of interesting trivia that made me laugh but I’m saving space.
Do you have anything of interest that’s stored away? I’ve love to hear about it. To celebrate my move I’m giving away one $25 Amazon gift card.
Here in the Texas Panhandle, we do love our cowboys. There's just something about a man in a Stetson and jeans that makes my heart beat faster. I'm not much of a cook but I love to do genealogy and I'm a bit of a rock hound. I'm also a NY Times & USA Today bestselling author of historical western romance. You can contact me through my website and I'd love to connect with you on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and more. HAPPY READING!

Sure I collect all kinds of interesting tidbits but when I want to recall one I find it impossible. 🙂
Perhaps after a night of rest something wil come to mind!!
Wonderful post, thanks for sharing! I couple of years ago I moved from Latvia to Italy, and shortly after that my mother sent me an article from a newspaper. It was about a movie being filmed on the street where I used to live. The strangest thing is that it was a German filming crew and they came all the way to Latvia to film the post-war Hamburg.
Love these, Linda. Feeling sorry for pigs that never get to look up at the sky. Trying to find something to add, but my brain is like a cluttered old house–can’t find any thing when I want it.
So glad you got the move done. Have a great day, Filly Sister.
What fun, Linda! Between the cows going upstairs, and the pigs and the sky, there’s a story waiting to be told. My only bit of trivia is about California condors. The have 9-foot wingspans. Huge!
Linda, what fun!
Speaking of cows, did you know that they are the only mammals that can pee backwards? That piece of trivia found its way in my book Waiting For Morning.
Hmm, gotta find a way to use the one about the pig . . .
The only thing I have stored away is a tote full of 9/11 tapes, newspapers, magazines, and a notebook of emails. I enjoyed this post.
“Reindeer milk has more fat than cow’s milk. I wonder if Santa knows this?”
Maybe that’s the reason for the big red suit. lol
Great post, Linda!
“It is possible to lead a cow upstairs but not downstairs because their knees cannot bend properly in order to walk to back down.”
A popular college prank in the early 1900s. I have such fun watching the faces of those frat boys (now in their 90s) when they confess they were in on the cow that was discovered in Dean so-and-so’s office.
Interesting. I was told that if the inside of your right palm itches, that means you’re getting money. Another tidbit I was told is that women shouldn’t sit their purses on the floor because it would cause the opposite…that it means you will be broke.
Love the trivia! An interesting fact I learned just recently is pigs were used during war time. They were called Soldier pigs and on battlefields, the pigs used their snouts as mine sniffers.
As far as an interesting item stored away, I have a replica of a Sears and Roebuck catalog. (I forget what year its from.) But its very interesting to look through.
Good morning everyone! Seems I’m a little late to my own party today. Had a late night.
Connie J……..You were sure up late, girl. Hope you got some good sleep. Maybe you dreamed about sheep or cows or roosters.
Natalija…….welcome to the Junction. So happy you stopped by. That article about the Germans going to Latvia to film a movie of post-war Hamburg is interesting and a bit odd. Wonder why they didn’t just film it in Germany?
Elizabeth……..No brain is more cluttered with stuff than a writer’s. We file away strange tidbits never knowing what we’ll need in a story. Sometimes mine feels like a filing cabinet drawer that is so crammed full it won’t shut. Then, I have trouble remembering important things like pin numbers when I’m checking out and using my debit card or my grandchild’s birthday. Very embarrassing.
Vicki……….Wow! That is a huge wingspan. I can’t even imagine. Condors are so graceful up in the sky. Hope you have a wonderful day!
Margaret……….Now, why wasn’t that in the article I found? Everyone needs to know that cows can pee backward. Too funny. I’ve got to get WAITING FOR MORNING!
Histerical trivia, Linda. I love those little snippets. Now I’m off to investigate why a mule won’t sink in quicksand.
I enjoyed this post which is very unique. I have always been interested in learning about new and fun tidbits. Thanks.
Great trivia. My useless trivia is that pigs don’t sweat.
Information is always fun to learn about, especially trivial type. I do know several that were passed down through the generations. I have very old photograph albums from generations back.
Cathy………I think we all save things that are important to us. I know I saved all the newspapers when I was in a devastating tornado here in Texas in 1979. It was the first time I really felt I might not live to see the next day. And 9/11 was so much worse. It deeply affected not only people in New York and the surrounding states but each one of us in some way. It’s one of those moments that we all look back and remember with total clarity where were were and what we were doing when it happened.
Have a great day, my friend.
Victoria, that is amazing stuff! I can’t even think of anything that interesting! My first thought is, how did a person even think to discover that particular piece of information? It’s so RANDOM!!!! Thanks for sharing! Congrats on the move! Never a fun thing but sometimes necessary!
Great post today. It is always fun to read about these cute and unique items. I have cherished my mother’s writing journal.
Tracy………Glad you enjoyed my humor today. But, hey, you never know when you’ll need some of this. LOL I’ve heard of some pretty crazy stunts being pulled in college.
Sheila……….Thank you for stopping by. I’m glad you found my post entertaining. No wonder I never have any money! I’m always sitting my purse on the floor in restaurants and other places. Maybe if I got one of those purse hangers I’ve seen I’d have more money. Too funny. There are lots of superstitions that can add to our day.
Katie J……….I’ve heard of lots of instances where animals and even dolphins were and are still being used in dangerous circumstances. But I’ve never heard about the bomb-sniffing pig. I guess anything is possible. And it comes to mind that miners used to take birds into the mines to detect poisonous gases. I love those old Sears catalogs. They have so much useful information in them for writers. Thanks for stopping by.
Karen……..Let me know if you find the answer to why a mule won’t sink in quicksand. I’d love to know. We have very inquiring minds. 🙂
Ellie………I’m so glad you enjoyed my warped sense of humor. These days I have to find reasons to laugh to keep my sanity.
Crystal GB……….How wonderful to see your post today. Glad you found my blog interesting. I thought it was a bit foolish but hey I need a bit of whimsy every now and then. I did not know that pigs are unable to sweat. Thanks for adding that tidbit. I hope your day goes well.
Anne……..Hold on to those old photo albums and treasure them. I often go to garage sales and auctions and it makes me sad to see old photo albums there for sale. Someone did hold onto those pictures dearly. But they die and the surviving relatives just wanted to get rid of them.
Valri Western……….Thanks for stopping by to comment. Glad you enjoyed my crazy blog today. I’m so happy to have this move over with. It’s been so difficult. But I love my new house and am enjoying settling in. It has a wonderful patio in the back that I love. It’s great sitting out and drinking my coffee or just watching the birds. Yesterday I went to the nursery and bought plants to put out there. The splashes of color really add to its beauty.
Diane………Oh my gosh! You have a real treasure in your mother’s writing journal. How very special. My mother didn’t keep a journal but I’ve saved little purse calendar books of hers where she jotted down things that were important to her. I really treasure those and guard them zealously. Thanks for stopping by.
Great trivia. I didn’t know that about the pigs. I actually didn’t know a lot of these. I do know on a snapping turtle, the head will still snap even if it’s not attached to the body.
Awesome post, Linda. I’m cracking up at the thought of that poor cow. My mind collects trivia like a sponge but I don’t know if this is true or not: in the Southern hemisphere, water drains and toilets flush the opposite circling that they do here?
love you, glad the move is done and that you can finally settle in! xo
Wow those are interesting things… I have to share some of those… for myself, I can not recall anything at this moment…
your post was so funny! Some I did know and other I didn’t. having little things like that to tell people always get me excited. Its something fun to bring to a conversation, you just have to figure out how introduce them into the convo lol. I think some of my favorite little tid bits are:
1. If cats get their whiskers clipped they will walk a little wobbly.
2. The giraffe has no vocal cords and communicates by vibrating the air around it’s neck.
3. Most elephants weigh less than the tongue of a blue whale
4.Bats always turn left when exiting a cave
Again im not sure when these kid of things would come up in a conversation hahah but still fun!
Amy S………Sounds like you might have had a personal experience with a snapping turtle. How painful. Thanks for sharing that bit of information.
Tanya……..Glad my post made you laugh. It was just a tad bit whimsical. I’m going to have to go to the southern hemisphere and see if the water does circle in the opposite direction. That would be too weird. But then there are lots of strange things in this world of ours.
I love you too, Filly Sister. Thanks for the good wishes about me settling in. I finally have all my boxes unloaded and everything put away. Seems like it took me forever.
Colleen………Thanks for leaving a comment. I always smile when I see your name come up. Even though we’ve never met I feel like we’re old friends. Hope you have a wonderful day with plenty of opportunities to laugh.
Cori……….Wow, you amaze me, girl! You’re a font of knowledge. Yes, I’m sure some of these would be real conversational ice-breakers. Folks might look at you a little weird though if you suddenly started talking about the weight of a blue whale’s tongue though. I can only imagine. That’s awfully heavy. Thanks for making my day.
There are house cats that are polydactyl. (Think that’s how you say it). Ernest Hemingway was a famous person who owned kitties like this and so did my step dad. What is it you say? When a kitty cat has more than 18 toes. Hemingway’s kitties had 26 and my step dad’s kitty had 30 – 7 on each paw up front and 8 on each paw on back. Now, go check to see how many toes your kitty has. 🙂
I’m thinking that you need to get back into Trivial Pursuit!
I loved these little tidbits. I didn’t know all of those things. I am a pack rat when it comes to books but that is about all. I do need to clean some things out though and get rid of stuff. I just hate to part with books. We don’t have a very large house, so I need to make some room for more books I think.
IN FAIRNESS………what else does a bee have to do, huh?
Linda, Thanks so much for such a fun post. Poor farm animals they seem to have their issues. 🙂 My mind is a bit full tonight, so I can’t pull out any of the trivia in there, but I sure enjoyed the laugh.
Thanks!
Kirsten
Linda, what time to do you Filly’s draw the names? When I can’t get on till late, even tho it’s the same date,it already shows the winners. Makes it hard to get in the drawings. I like the animal sayings. Can a pig see the sky when it lays down on it’s side? Thought maybe was why they like to lay down. 🙂 Maxie
Okay, I like to collect decks of cards(mostly because that’s what my dad and I used to play when he was alive), books are another and Breyer horses! It was fun reading all those useless facts, it makes you think!

How come it takes all day to clean your house but only 5 min to trash it?
Loved the trivia! can’t think of anything to add.
