When I'm not keepin' all these Fillies in line, I'm practicing my roping so I can catch me a cowboy. Me and Jasper (my mule) are two peas in a pod. Both of us are as crotchety as all get-out.

  4. I’m guessing I got #7 wrong, Pam. I was thinking when I typed my answers that “first” might trip me up. If not George Washington then I’d guess Caesar Augustus (Emperor Augustus).

  5. Yep, I couldn’t stand it..I went and looked up Caesar after PJ posted..so that means that I got two wrong, because I also looked up the different “Fathers” and Father Clinton isn’t one, though you can find stuff about the other three.

  7. I’m guessing the only wrong questions are 6 and 7 because I agree that the others are right. So I think it was Augustus and then Clinton.

  8. Okay, I’m not going to guess because it looks to me like all the ones I know are already taken and the rest, it’d just be a guess.

My own father died six years ago and my husband’s father died two weeks later. It was a really shocking time for us. Throw in that the same week my father-in-law died, my third child graduated from high school, so the week was this insane mix of grief and joy.

baccalaureate on Wednesday night, rosary on Thursday night, Senior breakfast Friday morning, funeral Friday afternoon. Graduation adn party with around 150 guests, Saturday.
The funeral is so mixed in with the graduation that they’re forever bound. Then my father’s and my husband’s father’s get mixed together, too.

I think the thing that struck me hardest was how really, really deeply my husband grieved for his father. There was a bond there that surprised me. I knew they had a great, loving relationship, but to this day my husband still once in a while mentions that it was the saddest event of his life.

His dad was 83, so it’s not like he didn’t have a really good, long life. And we lived close to them and my husband saw his dad every day, so no regrets for a lost relationship.

It just made me realize that the ties between a father and son are very special and deep and important. I’ve tried harder since then to give my husband a really great Father’s Day.
