The 1957 tagline: The Lonesome Whistle of a Train… bringing the gallows closer to a desperado–the showdown nearer to his captor!

Russel CroweOn September 7th, a remake of the classic western by Elmore Leonard will hit theaters.  I hope I’m not disappointed because the orginal with Glen Ford and Van Heflin will be difficult to top.   In Arizona in the late 1800’s, infamous outlaw Ben Wade (Russell Crowe) and his vicious gang of thieves and murderers have plagued the Southern Railroad.  When Wade is captured, Civil War veteran Dan Evans (Christian Bale), struggling to survive on his drought-plagued ranch, volunteers to deliver Wade alive to the “3:10 to Yuma”, a train that will take the killer to trial.  In the original, Evans does so in order to pay for a well.  On the trail, Evans and Wade–each from very different worlds–begin to earn each other’s respect.  But with Wade’s outfit of bad guys on their trail – and dangers at every turn – the mission soon becomes a violent, impossible journey toward each man’s destiny.

We should have a Premier Blog Party!  Can’t you see the Fillies on the red carpet?

  1. Thanks for posting this, Cheryl. Sounds like a great film. I’m tempted to rent the original and revisit it, but maybe that would spoil the new one.
Hey, the red carpet gets my vote!

  2. Cheryl,
as I prev stated. Two authors Frank G Slaughter and Frank Yerby both started me reading westerns. In fact some of their books were made into films>> FGS=Sangaree/Doctors Wives/Fort Everglades/..Both authors were terrific. The Stubborn Heart ad In A DArk GArden.A 2 part story..Really started me into reading.

  3. Hi Cheryl!

I’m really looking forward to this movie. Just FYI, I believe another Larry McMurtry western (possible sequel/prequel to Lonesome Dove) is also coming out soon. I’ll have to double check that, though, and let you know.

  4. Cheryl, yep I can see us fillies on the red carpet–cameras flashing and looking oh so glam! We’d be sitting next to Russell Crowe and he’d have his arm draped casually around me. No me, not you. Hey, this is my daydream! He’d be gazing deep into my eyes and whispering something that I can’t hear because of the rest of the fillies clamoring for equal attention. *sigh* And afterward we’d all be invited to the private party. lol Yep, I can see us there all right!

  5. just found this web site, pretty neat seeing comments by all my favorite authors. Just wondering about the black and white picture “Ride a Cowboy” I swear I’ve seen that horse somewhere before. Is that possible? I love horses and don’t usually forget one with such a nice head.
