Loving the Texas Negotiator–Garrison’s Law book #3

Book three in my Garrison’s Law series is OUT!

Loving the Texas Negotiator

Garrison’s Law book #3

Loving the Texas Negotiator

Not all the Garrisons are guys.

Beth Garrison is the top hostage negotiator in Rocky Ridge, Texas. She’s called to serve on a task force to investigate a killing that is a copycat of her first bust as a rookie.

Tate McCade has a reputation for steamrolling anyone who gets in his way and he’s had a run-in with Beth and her oversized ego before. He’s got a bruise on his face to prove it.

They have to work together and sparks are flying that aren’t all about the job.

Two more to go but we take a break in releasing them now because next month I’ve got book #2 of the High Sierra Sweethearts series, The Reluctant Warrior.

The Reluctant Warrior

Union army officer Cameron Scott is used to being obeyed, but nothing about this

journey to Lake Tahoe has gone as expected. He’s come to fetch his daughter and nephew, and seek revenge on the people who killed his brother. Instead he finds himself trapped by a blizzard with two children who are terrified of him and stubborn but beautiful Gwen Harkness, who he worries may be trying to keep the children.

When danger descends on the cabin where they’re huddled, Cam is hurt trying to

protect everyone and now finds Gwen caring for him too. He soon realizes why the kids love her so much and wonders if it might be best for him to move on without them. When she sees his broken heart, Gwen decides to help him win back their affection–and in the process he might just win her heart as well.

Some Reviews

Connealy’s Latest Filled with a Blend of Humor, History, and Cowboys
• “Connealy crafts relatable characters who will inspire readers with their love,
loyalty, and fortitude.”—

• Bestselling author Connealy reaches her fans regularly on popular book
blog Seekerville
• In 1860s Lake Tahoe, a band of high mountain cowboys must overcome a
dangerous enemy

The fun thing about my two books is one is contemporary, one is historical. They are both, I think, romantic comedy with cowboys. Although my contemporary ‘cowboy’ is a cop. But they hero and heroine are both from Texas and they go home to the family ranch for the happily ever after.

Today, let’s talk contemporary romance vs historical romance. Why do you like one or the other. Westerns, more than most other genres, can span historical and contemporary, as many modern day western romances as historical.

Which is your favorite. No right or wrong answers, just a fun conversation. Leave a comment to get your name in a drawing for an ebook copy of Loving the Texas Negotiator.

Historical Western Romance is my favorite read. It must be well done and backed up by deep research. The characters must bring life to the story and themselves. I am picky. There are some good authors and some great authors. I have my personal favorites. The great ones leave me reading page one to the end and pre-ordering the next feast. P&P has some great authors in my opinion. There are a few others as well.
    Write on, Ladies!

I enjoy historical. I feel like their is a lot to learn in historical stories of years gone by, jobs and inventions that in their day were amazing, time saving, and cost efficient but would prove useless and outdated in our day simply for the fact that we have advanced so much technologically.

Becca, I heard once that a person who has read Gone with the Wind knows more about the Civil War than your average college student. I think reading historical fiction is a great way to learn.

I love both, but for two different reasons. I love historical, because it takes me back to a time that my ancestors lived. It makes me imagine what it was like in their day. Sometimes it is nice to disappear in a book to get away. I love contemporary westerns because it is more to our time. Some of the situations are relatable to what we go through in our daily lives.

I love both but lean more toward the historical more then contemporary so historical is my favorite of the two. I guess its because I love learning about our history and how it was in the past. I love going back in time to the way life use to be.

I wonder if that … separating…makes it easier for some to let their imagination take over, so they book isn’t buzzing you with contemporary problems.
I’ve always thought the Amish genre might explain that need to go away into a book.

Kathleen and the change to contemporary is a new thing? That’s so interesting. About… oh how long ago now. It can’t be ten years??? (time flies!) About ten years ago I started reading a lot of contemporary suspense. Not necessarily romance. And for some reason it really clicked for me. Now I’ve got a bunch of authors I’m hooked on. Lee Child, Michael Connelly, Brad Thor, Vince Flynn, John Sandford, David Baldacci, Nevada Barr (she hasn’t written a new one in at least two years!) C.J. Box, Douglas Preston…Faye Kellerman, Jonathan Kellerman. Oh, way more than that.
I read all their work and it’s fine now, one new book per year (Baldacci writers more than that) But when I started the Jack Reacher series and read sixteen books as fast as I could to get up to speed on the series, I about killed myself. I tend to do that and it’s a sickness.

Glenda, with cowboys it is a history that is always so well known. That’s why I like picking interesting locations as settings. I’ve been wanting to do a book around Lake Tahoe for a long time. And then as I researched that, I found the Comstock Lode. Also right in that area, the Donnor Party and the California Trail. All sorts of rich backdrops for a book!

I am partial to the historical westerns. But cowboys are cowboys, whether they ride a horse and live in a cabin or drive a SUV and live in a condo. The ethic is there and they will persist to protect and serve, whether it is the law, or a family or person who needs help. I have not started either of these series and I must catch up with them. They both appeal. I hope you have an enjoyable Fall.
