TEXAS REDEMPTION and a Giveaway!

I’m so excited! TEXAS REDEMPTION will be out on Feb 7th- a week from today! This is a reissue of REDEMPTION that released in 2005. The book never got its due back then so I’m very happy to have it back in readers’ hands.

The climate of the story is during a bad time of our history. It takes place in 1869 –4 years after the Civil War. Texas was living under military occupation and the army was still searching for Confederates, especially the spies. Brodie Yates (legendary spy called Shenandoah during the war) is tired to running and wants to see his brother one more time before he dies. He’s going to make a final stand in his hometown of Redemption, Texas. The town is situated in the swamps of far East Texas.

During the war, he meets a beautiful woman known only to him as Lavender Lil in a brothel and loses his heart. Separated by war and miles, he never keeps his vow to get back for her. His skill with a Colt that hangs from his hip is the only thing keeping him alive. But can it when the army has built a stockade a few miles away?

Laurel James (Lavender Lil) is also in hiding after escaping the brothel where she was taken after being kidnapped from the area of Redemption and her family lives nearby but she can’t reunite with them until she cleanses her soul and regains respectability. She engaged to the town mayor, Murphy Yates.

So Brodie and Laurel are deeply shocked when they come face to face and they realize they’re still in love.  But they can’t hurt Murphy.

It’s a no win situation. Someone is going to lose.

One man offers her the respectability she craves. The other his heart. Which will she choose?

Here are a few pictures that I took when I visited Big Cypress Bayou and Caddo Lake in East Texas where this is set. Dark, mysterious, and haunting, the swamp was the perfect place. My camera back in the late 1990s wasn’t very good, so excuse the quality.

Their secret pasts hold the power to destroy them and everyone else around. The stage is set. What will be the outcome?

Question for readers—Are you a fan of unrequited love stories between two people who meet, are torn apart by fate then brought together again—only insurmountable odds keep them from taking what they most want?

I’m giving away two copies of the book. Leave a comment. I’ll draw the winners on Sunday!

  1. Hi Linda, what a terrific story! Congratulations and hugs and wishes for great success. For me, I love reunion stories after torn hearts. My favorite because I know a happy ending awaits and I love the journey to get there.

I had no idea Texas had swamps, cypress, and moss Yowzers. It reminds me of the awesome swamp-bayou tour we took in Louisiana. Love your pix. Love you, my friend. xo

    • Hi Tanya….I’m glad you enjoyed my post and the pictures. Actually, we have a large area of swamps that run up and down the entire east side of Texas. And we have alligators. In fact, we have just about every kind of landscape except snowy mountains. None of that here. I really enjoyed riding on that paddle wheel boat and taking these pictures. Such haunting beauty.

Brodie and Laurel are really torn and neither want to hurt his brother Murphy who’s in the middle. Laurel learns to listen to her heart and risks everything for love.

      Love you too, lady!

  2. Linda, I can’t wait. You really have a way of making the reader CARE about what will happen to the couple, because we care about them individually. And I’ve never seen a swamp in real life–but these pictures you posted really drew me in. So excited to see another excellent story of yours coming our way, and boy, I really really love your covers!

    XOXO
    Cheryl

    • Hi Cheryl……I’m glad you enjoyed my post, even as late as it was. I love Brodie and Laurel who share a past and a long separation. It took them a while to risk everything for love but they finally reach their HEA. Thank you for the compliment about the cover. I agree that it’s very pretty. The colors are striking and vivid. I’m just not very fond of the flower in her hair.

      Love you, lady!

    • Hi Kim……Thanks for coming. The Texas theme is for two reasons. One is because I know and love this state where I live. Another is it’s in my contract to have Texas in the title. My editor told me that Texas is a magic word for readers. Don’t know about that, but no other state has a history like ours.

      Good luck in the drawing!

  3. Hello Linda- yes yes yes, I truly love it when two people are brought back together after being apart for many many years. It gives us hope that lost love for those who still hold true to our heart is still out there and they think of us as much as we think of them and that if circumstances ever became feasible or we could meet and be together that the chance would arise.

    • Hi Miss Tonya……Thank you! I agree about a lost love that’s found. I really love that. I think the characters have much more to fight than ones who newly meet, especially if they’re trying to start a new life with someone else.

      Love you, sister friend!

    • Hi Kate……Thanks for coming. All my romances have a HEA. That’s one requirement for them all. Yes, sometimes they can only find it after being apart.

      Good luck!

  4. I can only say yes to the question especially since my father and step-mom were highschool sweethearts and when off at college and moving on with life they both married other people. My father and mother had 6 children and split up when I was 10, shortly after going through the death of my brother. My now step-mother was divorced and she and my father ended up back together and have now been married for 36 years. I can’t imagine my life it that hadn’t happened, my younger sister and I ended up in Stephenville living with myou father and ste-mother and that was the best thing that could have happened to us.

    • Stephanie- what a beautiful testimony to true love finding each other again. Tell your dad & stepmom I said Congrats on a happy ever after.

    • Hi Stephanie……Thanks for dropping by. Wow, that was some separation! It’s funny how these things happen and fate brings two people together again. I love it! I’m glad you had a great life.

Have a wonderful day, dear lady!

    • Hi Catslady……Thanks for coming. So true. We need the stomach clenching and our heart pounding. Those are the best stories. I hope my books never get boring.

      Good Luck in the drawing!

  5. Yes Yes Yes I love long ago lost loves brought back together and I just recently watched a Hallmark movie of of two being brought back together after 20 yrs just beautiful those love stories are!!!

    • Hi Glenda…….Thanks for coming. I love those kinds of stories and movies. I yearn for them to get back together and when they do I give a big sigh and reach for a Kleenex. Beautiful, satisfying stories of love and the power of fate.

      Big hugs!

  6. Linda, I loved this story when it first came out. I can’t wait to get the new release. I love the premise of the book and of course the characters. I like just about any type of love stories (except erotica and some of the way out books). Much love, P

    • Hi Phyliss…..Thank you for coming. I’m glad you enjoyed my post. I think the book will do lots better this time. That pirate shirt Dorchester put on the cover model before did not help sales. That was horrible.

      Hugs!

  7. Yes, I do indeed love long lost love found again stories.

When you mentioned having Texas in the title of your books to Kim, I thought of my mom who was so very drawn to books with Texas in the title. I also looked up Caddo on a map, and it’s not that far east from Gladewater where my mom went to high school. I can’t help but wonder if she and the family went there fishing back then, and I can’t help but wish she were still here to read your book about her part of Texas. I’ll just do it for both her and for me, how’s that?

    • Eliza- I’m so sorry your mom’s not here to visit with about all this. Yes I believe she would love Linda’s book and visiting about this area. Enjoy the book for both of you, she will be smiling down on you as you read about her old stomping grounds.

    • Hi Eliza……Thank you for your comment. I’m sorry your mother can’t read this story set in her neck of the woods. I think she’d love it. I’m going to have to write more stories of lost loves that come together again. Texas Redemption is the only book with that theme.

Yes, your mother can read over your shoulder. Good luck!

  8. hi Linda, yes I enjoy stories like that, my opinion is , if it is meant to be it is meant to be, maybe they had to be torn apart, and leave a love ony to learn and grow and find eachother again.

    • Hi Elaine………So happy to have you. I, along with many others, firmly believe that everything happens for a reason. If it’s meant to be, it’ll come back around.

      Have a wonderful day!

  9. I love when books get a chance to be reintroduced… gives us readers a second chance to pick it up if we missed it before! 🙂

    • Hi Colleen……I’m glad I could bring this back out and give it a second chance. It never received much notice before and it definitely deserves better. I think you’ll like this.

Have a good day and Good Luck!

  10. Linda, I am so happy this story is getting a second chance. Great stories are built on being unable to find what you want and keep it. Unrequited love is huge. Although I don’t like frustration in my real life, it keeps me reading in the stories others tell.

    Doris

    • Hi Doris……Thank you for your comment. I think all of us have a little unrequited love in us. Maybe it’s a boy you went to school or the prom with or a chance meeting in an airport. Or maybe a one-night stand. I hope you enjoy Texas Redemption.

      Hugs and Good Luck!

  11. Linda, sounds like a great story. And the cover is lovely with that eye-popping purple. Now I’m really curious how they come to be together without hurting the brother.

    • Hi Trish……Thank you for the kind words. I agree about the cover. I think the artist did an excellent job. When this first came out in 2005, the cover model wore a pirate shirt. Confused everyone. Readers didn’t know what genre it was. Welcome to the corral. I hope you’ve settled in well.

      Hugs!

  12. Hi, Linda! Great post! I love a good love story. And when they are torn apart and come back together….oh, my!!!!! Thank you for sharing your talent.

    • Hi Melanie……I’m glad my post and premise of the book drew you in. It’s still one of my favorite stories. I think that’s because it was so different.

      Good Luck in the Drawing!

  13. I love the cover. I also love it when previous published books are given new life and republished.

    Blessings,
    Cindy W.

    • Hi Rita Wray…….Thanks for dropping by. This type story seems to appeal to most readers. Repairing Brodie’s and Laurel’s relationship sure took some doing. They resisted as long as they could.

      Good Luck in the drawing!

  14. Love the cover! Hmmm, I usually do like it when there are things to work out or hardships to overcome in romance books. I don’t like it when it goes on and on and you roll your eyes at the 12th time they have a problem crop up between them. LOL. 🙂

    • Hi Susan……Thank you for coming. Yes, some can get repetitious and I don’t like that either. I hope you’ll enjoy Texas Redemption.

      Good Luck in the drawing!

  15. This sounds so wonderful a story and being as your a new author to me this is exciting to hear of your books and get to know you !
    Blessings
    Linda Marie Finn
    Faithful Acres Books

    • Hi Linda Finn…….Thanks for dropping by. It’s always exciting to hear of authors you didn’t know. Maybe you’ll try my book. Lots of history in this one. But it’s not an inspirational.

      Good Luck in the drawing!

  16. Hi Linda – Your books are always so moving & tug at your heart. Yes, I love that Brodie & Laurel are getting a chance at HEA and get the chance to prove their love for one another. I always enjoy those kind of stories in books.

    • Hi Lois……..So glad you came! And thank you so much for the kind words. I always cry when I’m writing my stories. I believe that if I can’t feel the emotion, readers won’t either. I’m glad mine touch you in some way.

      Good Luck in the Drawing!

  17. I was just saying the other day I wanted to read a historical where the heroine was a former prostitute! And now here one is! Excited to read this!

Glenda K and Tonya L have encouraged me for a while to try out your books and I started the first Texas mail order bride book this weekend and am already starting to fall in!!

As far as your question, I do enjoy 2nd chance stories, as long as there isn’t too much silly angst (talk like the adults you’re supposed to be!) and hopefully not too much time lost. However I also love Rosanne Bittner stories and she gives long hard won separations, so if it’s written well…. It’s worth it!

Thanks for the chance to win.

    • Hi Michelle……Thank you for stopping by. I’m so glad you’re enjoying Texas Mail Order Bride. Cooper and Delta shared a special love. I really enjoyed writing the Bachelor series. Yes, Laurel James was a former prostitute and it was in the brothel where she met and fell in love with Brodie Yates. Later in the book, she has an occasion to visit a prostitute in the saloon and I think that was a powerful scene.

I look forward to your comments about Texas Mail Order Bride when you finish.

      Big Hugs!
