10 Things You May Not Know About Me…Charlene Sands

Charlene-with-Books1.  I officially met my Now and Forever husband when I was sixteen.  He was the cliché high school sweetheart and the boy that lived around the corner. In fact, his number address was the same as ours.  But I really knew of him much earlier on as he and his brothers would often steal into our backyard to retrieve baseballs that went over the fence into our yard.  My dad caught him red-handed one day, “taking” an orange from our tree, age 10.

2.    Cats and kittens have always been a part of my life.  As a young girl, before it was politically correct to spay and neuter, two of our cats gave birth at the same time.  I was in kitten heaven having nine little fur balls to love!  And we were lucky enough to give all of them good homes.

Skittles was my computer mascot.

3.    To me “math” is a four letter word.  Ugh, I’ll be eternally grateful to my sister Carol for getting me through torturous Algebra and Geometry…  Lucky for me history and English have more letters!

4.    I have read every book LaVyrle Spencer and Susan Elizabeth Phillips have written.  (I’m sure I’m not alone on this).

5.     My favorite motto:  Carpe Diem.   Seize the day, the moment, the opportunity and you’ll never look back with regret.

6.    I am addicted, I mean ADDICTED to Dancing With The Stars.  The show makes me absolutely happy.

7.     There is nothing I enjoy more than the value of a comfortable pair of shoes!  I am not a shopper and my feet don’t always cooperate in most shoes, so it’s like winning the lottery when I find a pair of shoes that are stylish AND comfortable!  I’m on the lookout now, as I’ll be attending the Romance Writers Convention soon and need comfy shoes for work and play!

8.    I’m a: The Glass is Half Full kind of girl.

9.   I own a Disney Musical Globe collection and wish they’d make more quality globes like they had in the past.  My favorite is Cinderella.

They dance, there's music and a clock that strikes 12 midnight!

Ex-Army sergeant and security expert, Cody Matthews recently walked away from his company to work The Lucky B Ranch just outside of Marietta, Montana. The ranch is his refuge, but his hiding out is short-lived when he’s recruited into the Marietta Bachelor Auction and his high school ex-crush bids a small fortune to spend one weekend with him.

Hollywood starlet, Hayley Dawn O’Malley has had decent, honest, sexy Code Matthews on the brain ever since she left Marietta after high school to pursue her dreams. But now she’s back in town and someone is threatening her. Cody, a natural-born protector, is the only man she trusts to keep her safe.

Spending their weekend date in a remote cabin, Cody plays the role of reluctant bodyguard, yet Hayley isn’t going to let the tormented man deny his feelings for her, no matter the threat to her body or her heart.

  1. I love reading things about all of you. I’m with you on collecting Disney globes. I collect everything Beauty and the Beast. One of my globes broke though and slowly leaked the water out. It was the same one you show above. I tried to keep it without the glass but everything faded and well, it wasn’t the same. Sad.

    Have a blessed day!

    1. Hi Cindy
I have a Disney globe where the water is slowly evaporating and there’s nothing I can do to stop it. It is sad when that happens.

  2. Hi Charlene, it’s so much fun learning about the fillies! I love Dancing with the Stars, too. I have a wide foot so finding comfortable stylish shoes to wear is not easy. See you at the Romance Writers Convention!

    1. Hi Margaret,
So we do have a lot in common! And yes, I can’t wait to see you and all other friends at the convention!!

  3. I always enjoy learning more about my favorite authors. I would have been in kitten heaven too with all of those babies. Your Disney snow globe collection is really pretty.

    1. Hi Janine
I thought of you when I was writing about all those kittens. Ah, those were super happy days for me, when they were young.

  4. We have a love of cats, comfortable shoes, and not being a shopper in common. Good luck on the drawing to those with ereaders. (I don’t, so I can’t be in the drawing.)

    1. Hi Eliza!
Thanks for sharing our common traits!! If you name is picked, I can always send you a different book as a prize. I appreciate you stopping by!

  5. We used have cats when I was a kid, but right now I have to settle for looking after my brother’s dog every once in a while.

    1. Hi Minna!
We don’t have a cat either right now, and we haven’t had a dog since I was a child. Have a great day!

  6. Your books are absolutely amazing. I love reading your works. I too am a Disney fan. I love Chip-n-Dale, Donald and the gang along with the Toy Story gang. I love dogs and kittens. I do have a weenie dog who is a ham. My husband hams it up too. LOL! Thanks for the chance to win!

    1. Hi Melissa C!
Ah thanks for the lovely comments. I do appreciate them. I wish my hubby was more of a Disney fan, since we don’t live too far away from Disneyland, but I go with the munchkins and he tags along. Toy Story is one of my favs!

  7. Hi Charlene, great pictures! I love the tale about the stolen orange! The princesses are gonna enjoy hearing about that. I share your sentiment about comfy shoes…I’ve got to get on the prowl for some before RWA for sure. Hugs to the family…can’t wait for San Diego!

    1. Hi Tanya!

I am with you about finding the right shoes. I’ve been searching, looks like I might have to take a chance online and hope they fit correctly. There just aren’t too many places to buy good shoes anymore. See you soon!

  8. I am with you on the Susan E Phillips.. books.. I collect Angels and Hearts…

    1. Hi Kathleen O!

Your collection sounds beautiful. I bet they are put on display around Valentine’s day in all their glory!! And SEP is an auto buy for me. Her next book comes out in Aug. Can’t wait!

  9. I collect postcards. Don’t have a cat because I am allergic to them but think they are wonderful animals so no nothing in common.

  10. I love reading these. 🙂 I also am a carpe diem type person. I try to have fun in every situation and place I am. Trust me – it doesn’t always work and I do have my Grinch moments!!! I also agree that not much is made as well as it was back in the day. Not just snowglobes – I’m talking everything.

  11. I love Dancing With The Stars and am definitely an animal lover! 🙂 My sister has a nice collection of water globes too.

  12. Charlene ~ Loved learning more about you! I’m with you on a good pair of comfortable shoes as a most important thing! I’ll be looking to see what you end up with in San Diego!

  13. Oh Charlene, we have so much in common. I didn’t realize just how much until I read your blog. I think this type of blog was an excellent idea, not just for the readers to learn about the Fillies but the Fillies learning more about one another. I’m a cat lover, love DWTS, and when I was young I wore really, really high heels, but now it’s comfortable Granny Shoes or barefooted in the house. Thanks, so much sister Filly for opening up on yourself. Big hugs from Texas via California. Going home this weekend after 5 weeks out here. Boo-hoo! P

    1. Hi Phyliss
Oh, it’s great to know we have so much in common! We really do! I also like the idea of this blog so that we all get to know each other better!!

You know what Dorothy says,”There’s no place like home.” But I’m sure you had a lovely visit!

  14. I love DWTS, too!

  15. Love kittens and cats and dancing with the stars!

  16. It was so much fun learning 10 things about you! Sign me up in the cat/kitten club. I love having kittens around, but now I usually adopt grown cats. I can’t imagine life without a cat!

  17. 1. I met my husband in chemistry class when I was 16. We didn’t realize until several years after we were married that we attended 3rd grade together.
    2. I had a cat when I was young, but she had kittens and my dad brought them all to the animal shelter. Several years later we had an adult cat show up and adopt us. They had him for over 12 years. We have had 3 cats, two of which lived to over 17 years. We are currently catless which is a nice break since our current dogs are not all cat friendly.
    3. I loved math. History and english, not so much. I did always love to read and now historical fiction is a favorite.
    4. WHAT I DID FOR LOVE was the first SEP book I read. I haven’t read all of her and Spencer’s books, but have read quite a few.
    5. I hadn’t really thought of it, but I do operate on a Carpe Diem type of philosophy.
    6. Have only watched Dancing With The Stars a few time. Enjoyed it, but there is something else we watch at that time.
    7. I agree completely with your thoughts on shoes. I have been wearing sandals lately and without the support, my feet hurt.
    8. Most of the time I am a Glass Half Full person, but there are days that it is definitely Half Empty.
    9. I love snow globes. I have about 10, but they aren’t really a collection. Over the years I have given little ones to my grandchildren.
    10. I think unexpected gifts of any kind are important. It can be just a quick surprise visit or giving a stranger a little something. Surprises, good ones, are always welcome and brighten up one’s day.
Love your Disney globe collection. Have enjoyed your books over the years and look forward to reading many more.

  18. I’m a Carpe Diem and wear comfy shoes (or boots) kind of girl!
