Goodmorning Charlene, He’s not a cowboy but my favorite quote is “You Complete Me” in Jerry Mcquire. I love Robert Redford in The Horse Whisper and Kevin Coster in Open Range and even though he wasn’t a cowboy loved him in Dancing with Wolves also.
I don’t have a clue about who said what, but the quotes are great. Love ’em. My favorite all time movie quote, which I swear to write down next time I see the film, is what Nicholas Cage says to Cher in Moonstruck after the opera when he’s trying to get her back to his room. Something about we’re not here to do right. We’re here to make mistakes and love the wrong people and get our hearts broken. Kinda sums up my life…

My family, the children, have some quoting from movie’s deal, very strange, they are ALWAYS quoting moves.
One thing my husband loved was John Wayne in Rooster Cogburn talking about his son.
“There was a boy. A clumsier child I’ve never seen.”
My husband used to say that when the girls were toddlers, staggering around. “A clumsier child I’ve never seen.”
Yikes, the girls will come and boot me out of the family if I can’t come up with a zillion movie quotes.
Of course the classic, “You feel lucky, Punk? Well, do ya?” Clint Eastwood as Dirty Harry.

Hi Mary – It’s funny, because MY children used to quote commericals! Yep,they knew them all and would say them along with the TV. That’s when I knew they were watching WAY too much television.
I think John Wayne had some classics. Notice I didn’t include the “pilgrim” one. I’d forgotten all about it!

I actually use this one a LOT at my job as an object lesson…I’m a teacher.
The moment the Scarecrow gets his brain in the Wizard of Oz he rattles off, “The sum of the square roots of any two sides of an isosceles triangle is equal to the square root of the remaining side.”
This is slightly wrong but it’s the Pythagorean Theorum. Which is something I have to teach…or try. So I say, “Remember when the Scarecrow got his brain in…..
Then I launch into that. I have this theorum of my own that this someone makes it more accessible. No evidence of that, but still…..
Oh, how about this, Independence Day…Judd Hirsch. “You don’t actually think they spend $20,000 on a hammer, $30,000 dollars on a toilet seat do you?”
And Will Smith, Independence Day, punching that alien and saying, “Welcome to Earth.” and “But oh, no, you got to come down here gettin’ all big and bad.”
And Jeff Goldblum, “Look at the earthlings.”
Tom Hanks…Apollo 13…Houston, we have a problem.
Mary – I use that line line a lot. “Houston, we have a problem!”
Charlene, you’ve posed quite a conundrum here today. Mary is sure quoting lines right and left. She’s desperately trying to keep from getting kicked out of the family. 🙂 You go, girl!
The only quote I can think of right now is a Tom Selleck line from one of his Jesse Stone movies. “You live long enough you have regrets and the things you hate most are the ones where you had a choice, the ones when you knew you could’ve stopped yourself. And the ones where you look in the mirror deep inside yourself and said, ‘Don’t do this.’ but you do it anyway.” Or that’s the closest I can remember to the quote.

I really enjoyed reading all your quotes. Butch Cassidy is one of my favorite movies! I had the privilege of hearing William Goldman talk about it(the screenwriter) last fall at a conference, and he said he wrote it over the Christmas holidays one year, when he was a teacher. Geez! He’s not only brilliant, but fast, too!

Coming in here late but it’s been one of those days. One line that always gets me is from “The Searchers” after Ethan, Marty, and Brad catch up to the indians the first time and Brad asks about Lucy and Ethan replies, “What do you want me to do? Draw you a picture? Spell it out? Don’t ever ask me! Long as you live don’t ever ask me more!” I always feel like I’ve been sucker punched in the gut when John delivers that speech.
Favorite quote from a non-western, Monty Python’s Quest for the Holy Grail from the Black Knight, “Come back, it’s only a flesh wound!”

The Unforgiven….Killing a man takes all he has and all he ever will have.
In our family, we often talk to each other in movie quotes. A favorite (which has nothing to do with westerns) when we’re peeved and want to say get lost or beat it, we say, “Eat your checkers.” It’s Goldie Hawn’s line while in the mental health ward at the beginning of Overboard.
The Princess Bride quotes reminded me of a favorite movie. NOT a western… Dennis Quaid and Kathleen Turner in Undercover Blues. Favorite lines: “My name is Muerte.” “Hi Morty!” “No, no, it’s Muerte–Death!” … “I can’t believe you’ve managed to capture the Big M himself–Muerte!” “Me? No, no, my name is Morty!” (paraphrased). But my favorite line is when KT tells DQ to “Kill the lights…I meant turn them off.” Morty–Stanley Tucci–does the best girlie scream I have ever heard. Hilarious!
